RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Starting to feel like locking in that DH Spot to Morales may have been a mistake. Already Donaldson and Bautista both looking like they would be able to use 20-30 games at DH each. To what extent Morales can switch over and play 1st we don't know yet. When the dog days hit, the big guns will need time at the DH Slot.

Duquette: (Laughs) Well that was an easy one; our fans just don’t like Jose. We play those guys 25 times a year and he’s the face of the Blue Jays. He’s the villain in the play whenever we play the Blue Jays. I like our guys. Our guys are good. [Mark] Trumbo is like a working-class-type baseball player. If he was going to work every day on a construction site, you would understand that he brings that kind of work ethic every day. That’s the kind of player that our fans identify with. We try to get gritty players that work hard every day and give their best effort every day. Our fans seem to like that and respond to it.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 How this guy is not fired yet i don't know.... In 3 season he has done absolutely nothing to improve the bullpen or OBP as a team.... He thinks the solution to everything is big homerun and K guys. That does not work.

Made the playoffs 3 out of the last 5 years despite being in the hardest division in baseball and with the second lowest payroll in the Division. He is a damn fine GM, just talks too much.

Do you mean the starting rotation, not the bullpen? The O's pen is tough.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 I don't think Duquette does a bad job with the hand he's been dealt. He has a meddlesome owner and his team, despite some success, is a very unattractive destination for free agents because of some of the contract s*** they've pulled. I'm sure he would like to sign some high OBP guys but he's somewhat limited to the same motley crew of players with a devalued skillset because better players find better places to play. That being said his comments about Jose are a patently ridiculous non-denial denial. "I’m not going to go tell our fans that we’re courting Jose Bautista for the Orioles because they’re not going to be happy." Notice that he doesn't say that they weren't courting Bautista just that he's not going to tell his fans that. I bet he got rejected by Bautista and now he's pulling some "Well I never really wanted you anyways" ********.

I assume they have already come to grips with the fact that Manny will be gone.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Estrada had another good outing... 5 IP 2 H 1 ER 0 BB 5 K he's at 68 pitches, I'd assume his day is done. Norris is pitching a very good game also.

How does Manny Machado appeal to their fans then? Duquette is hardly alone with views like that, they're extremely common across the league among fans, executives and even players. Any non-white player in Baseball with even a hint of a personality is a diva by default.

Orioles fans are the gift that keeps on giving. If you're a fan of salt, that is.

I read something just the other day about how the O's don't shop in Latin America.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 I wonder what the odds were of us going from Duquette or Kenny Williams to someone like Shapiro. This franchise was doomed to years of failure and somehow we avoided the glacier. Maybe the MLB stepped in and told Ed Rogers to stop what he's doing and approach Shapiro because they don't want to see one of the best markets get nuked. The upgrade from the current FO to one with either of those clowns is probably worth over $100 Million if not more in value. Crazy how lucky Rogers was.

TBJ12 Verified Member Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 (edited) Racism is only black and white in Baltimore. I read something just the other day about how the O's don't shop in Latin America. This sounds confusing. Based on what I've seen on the O's board, racism is black and white. O's FO seems to have a problem with players who aren't American. Wish I had linked to the article, but it's only a few days old and seems to label the O's as anti Latin American. It's not going to be a coincidence when Machado walks while Jones, Trumbo and Davis were retained. Weiters would have gotten the same treatment if it weren't for his spat with Mr. 50hr himself, Brady Anderson. Edited March 23, 2017 by TBJ12
