Does the cole deal set the approx market for stroman? Stro a year younger, talent and results comparable

Stro comes with four years of team control vs just two for Cole...whatever the Pirates are getting, it would/should take a lot more to pry Stro away.

Stro has three years of control left now, but regardless that one extra year should still be worth more than Cole, combined with putting up these numbers in the AL East.

Yes, thats why i said 'approx market'

Stro should return a bit more than cole, the equiv of a prospect just outside the top 100 i would say

2015 was really good, past two years I'd say just good. A lot more in the Sonny Gray, Marcus Stroman camp than the Bumgarners which is what he was projected for is what I was getting at

In 2015 he was better than Bumgarner has ever been (playoffs excluded). Last year was a bit of a down season (matched Bumgarner's 2012 season). Take all his other season and project them to Bumgarner's innings pitched and he's just as good. He just hasn't been able to stay healthy consistently.

The guy the Jays should be looking to move and cash in on is Osuna.

Yeah seriously. They can still faux contend and rebuild at the same time if they maximize their most expendable assets, and while Osuna is awesome, he's simply not going to have as much value to a .500-ish team than he would for a team planning to seriously contend. If the Jays can get 2-3 top prospects back, then they'd be setting up the future nicely, and may not even lose much in '18 given how unpredictable relievers are. Who knows when Osuna's arm will flake out.

With one TJS already he's a ticking time bomb to me. Love him as a player and he's been a great story, but the Jays could get some really helpful pieces for him like the Yankees did in 2016 at the deadline.

Yeah if Jake McGee is worth 27 mil then Osuna is worth a ton in a trade.

Exactly my thoughts too. I'd take 75% of the Giles return, but would target bats instead of arms.

If the Jays want to compete this year they're going to have to keep him though. Without him the bullpen is easily bottom 10 if not worse.

But if they sell at the deadline he should be one of the first ones they move.

If the front office don’t even want to trade JD with only a year left, there’s no chance Osuna is going anywhere.

With Britton out for 6 months but due a large arbitration salary, and Machado reportedly off the market after poor trade offers, how f***ed are the Orioles?

Yeah that’s a farm system that probably won’t be able to start any sort of recovery until the end of the decade at the earliest if those two just end up walking.

Just to add on to your previous post though, with those guys off the market, isn’t this the best time for the Jays to capitalize by trading Donaldson and Osuna? Cards may start getting desperate for a bat and there would be tons of teams lining up for Osuna now that Britton is going nowhere.

Well if the potential return for Machado wasn’t good enough to trade him, perhaps the offers for JD aren’t very good either. Who knows though!

Agreed. And Smoak.

Yup. If he sustains his success in the first half and the Jays are out of it, then I would 100% support moving him as well.

You're right, they aren't going to trade him before the season but he would be one of the most attractive bullpen arms at the deadline if they decided to move him.

Smoak was a three win player last year owed 10M over the next two years. There would absolutely be takers for him if he maintains the adjustments he made last year, which is essentially curbing the strikeouts.

Similar players are only getting $7M.

That's why he would have to be good again to start the year.

A power bat available for 2M at the deadline will likely have suitors, especially in the AL.

I agree. Someone might overpay at the deadline if he puts up similar numbers.

Bo Bichette’s brother Dante Jr (who I didn’t realise was still in baseball) just signed a minor league with the Rockies.

The number one ZiPS comp for Yu Darvish is... Greg Maddux? I think this on it's own is evidence enough to stop reporting these comps.

It’s “probably not even a remote possibility” that the Orioles will cut ties with closer Zach Britton in the wake of his ruptured Achilles, Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com hears. Britton, who’s entering his last year of arbitration eligibility, would receive his full 2018 salary (a projected $12.2MM) even if he’s released, according to Kubatko. So, it’s more likely the Orioles will attempt to extend the Scott Boras client and keep him in the fold beyond next year, Kubatko suggests. Interestingly, there’s a small chance a healthy Britton could eventually return to his original role as a starter. The Orioles approached Britton with the idea earlier this year, and though he expressed a desire to remain in the bullpen, he “wasn’t adamant about resisting the switch,” Kubatko writes. Whether it would make sense to change Britton’s role has drawn mixed opinions in the organization, Kubatko details, and his injury may reduce the likelihood of it happening. Regardless of whether he starts or stays in the bullpen going forward, the O’s are hopeful Britton will return before the All-Star break, Kubatko relays.

Lol Orioles, what a disaster. Britton hasn't started an MLB game since 2013.
