Seems like a pretty light package from the Yanks. So far 2 of the 3 deadline deals have really favoured the buyers.

There's a fourth, unknown piece (a prospect) that may or may not sway things a bit.

Rutherford, Clarkin, _______, and Clippard.

Good trade for both sides. Yankees strengthen their already great BP with Robertson and can move one of Headley/Frazier to 1st. White Sox get a great prospect in Rutherford and a couple lottery tickets.

Rutherford himself is a pretty good return on Frazier and not having to pay Robertson 13M next year.

I like what the Sox got for that package more than what the Tigers got for Martinez. I wouldn't have expected that

It's happening!

It's about time Brad Goldberg got recalled.

With Robertson off the books, the White Sox only have $14 million in payroll commitments next season according to Roster Resource: https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-chicago-white-sox-info/

And with so much young, cheap, controllable talent coming up, they can afford to spend a ton of money. Future is looking bright for the White Sox. Hahn has truly done a fantastic job offloading his talent.

Jose Abreu is probably next. Unless they want to milk the Cuban connection with Moncada and Robert but that seems unlikely.

Kahnle has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year. Like the deal for the Yankees a lot more but White Sox did better than the Tigers at least.

He's gone full Andrew Miller so far this season.

The Yankees don't really need more relievers though, it seems like they're paying a lot to upgrade where an upgrade wasn't necessary.

They'll probably not let any Starter outside Severino and Tanaka face the order 3 times. You can never have too good a bullpen.

We're back to Yankees and Red Sox bidding wars to block each other.

This is likely what happened, the Yankees cockblocked Boston from getting upgrades at positions of need.

Wow, didn't realize that was all they had tied up for next year. I wonder if they could be big players in the 2018 FA class?

The farm is nice, but lots of prospects don't pan out. Not a fan of most of their pitching prospects either.

I'm a little surprised the Yankees didn't target Abreu as part of that deal. That would have been an ideal spot for him even if they just ride him out for one season and decline his arb (or move him themselves). I guess cock-blocking the Red Sox was a big motivator.

I have to assume that there weren't a lot of team with the payroll flexibility of the Diamondbacks for the Tigers to accept such a light return on Martinez. Feels like a pure salary dump despite the quality of the player.

I don't have a problem with that White Sox return. The White Sox got salary relief too and in Rutheford, they got the kind of prospect that should have been the centerpiece of the both returns and nothing they moved is as good as Martinez.

With the market for starting pitching seeming high, maybe the best way for the Yankees to add wins is by upgrading the bullpen. As well, it's not like Chapman and Betances have been all that great this season.

They've had the second best bullpen in baseball to date. Imagine if Chapman and Betances were pitching to their usual standards then. There's just not much to upgrade.

Bryant dove head first into home and really f***ed up his fingers/hand.

Looks like it's just a strained pinky.

That could easily land him on the DL, but that's much better than what I originally thought.

Kris Bryant has been diagnosed with a sprained left pinkie.

Advice: X-rays turned up negative and he's considered day-to-day for now, but there will probably be more scans to come. Bryant injured the finger Wednesday on a slide into the cleat of Braves third baseman Johan Camargo. Tommy La Stella replaced him in the Cubs' lineup in the bottom of the first inning.

Its funny how quiet the baseball world is on TB's success, they were even saying just yesterday on the Rundown(MLBN) that they might still sell.

They can convert Green to a Starter and they've improved their team quite a bit. Clippard was garbage and Kahne vs the Tommy Layne's of the world is still a big upgrade.
