Kershaw just struck out the side on 10 pitches (it should've been 9 - the 9th pitch was a high strike, but was called a ball by the ump).

Take a shower, Clayton. You filthy!

Poor Dustin Fowler.

Worst MLB debut of all time. Didn't even make it out of the first inning.

He gets to collect that sweet MLB salary while recovering at least.

It's hard to watch where he tries to walk and his knee just gives way.

He stayed pretty calm considering everything.

I'm sure he let out some curse words and took a bat to some inanimate object later on, when he realized he was going to miss the whole season.

At 0:27 in this video you can clearly see that his kneecap has travelled up his leg by several inches. That's what happens when the patellar tendon completely tears.

Hoping for the best for Dustin Fowler.. this almost felt as bad as the Adam Greenberg injury.. not even getting a chance for an at-bat. Hopefully Fowler makes it back in 2018 and becomes a major part of the Yankees' emerging core, along with Frazier and Torres, and of course Sanchez and Judge.

As for the Yankees, the injuries(both major and minor league) are coming at a bad time, especially with 2 first place teams(Houston, Milwaukee) and the Blue Jays coming up on the schedule, and their wild card lead being chipped away by LA, Tampa, Texas, Baltimore, Kansas City, Seattle.. and let's not rule out the Jays if they remember how to hit!

These injuries increase the chance the Yankees will stand pat at the deadline and stick with their rebuild plans, as there's no point blowing prospects for rentals especially when the team itself is at least a year away from being a bonafide powerhouse.. and their prospect stock has been drained by injuries to Torres and Fowler.

Fangraphs is really running out of things to publish at this point. Embarrassing.

There's one actually interesting point of information. Leverage is down on average. That's something that at least theoretically should impact fan engagement. There's a whole lot of word count extending fluff grafted around that one little tidbit.

I read very little of the actual content anymore. DFS projections and player search is about the only things I use it for at the point.

I don't understand their economic model but their must be some sort of economic incentive that's driving them to focus so much more on quantity than quality. With a bit more research, Sullivan might have been able to make something out of this or at least put together something that doesn't read like a padded undergrad paper.

Speaking of baseball and fan engagement, does anyone miss the intentional walk? I just realized that I have pretty much completely stopped noticing that rule change. I can't even remember the last time it came up in a Jays game.

It has to be clicks. Clickbait titles leading to clicks leading to (whatever little) ad revenue they get every time a person gets an ad.

Likewise. The only articles I get anything out of these days are the ones where potential breakout reliever X is mentioned and they have a few cool .gifs of them showcasing their repertoire. But that's for fantasy baseball purposes.

I wanted to do some research and see if this has in any way affected run expectancy compared to the intentional walk of previous years. I think there's something to be said about removing the pressure of throwing 4 unnecessary pitches, with the small but existent chance that something can go wrong, and just getting on with your gameplan to focus directly on the next batter which is the one that counts.

It's the two biggest issues with websites today, clickbait and an overabundance of ads. Many websites are in fact breaking Google's rules about ad volume.

I opened up Fangraphs the other day on a computer where I don't have an adblocker installed. The site was almost unusable. Hell, you close some of their ads, and another automatically appears (not supposed to happen).

Did you read the one about Pujols the other day? Even Jeff Sullivan is writing bad articles now.

I did not. I like Sullivan a lot but he's also being forced to put out junk every week and it sucks.

Holy f***. Everyone who was involved in the writing, editing and processing/publishing of this article should be extremely embarrassed.

Yup. First comment nailed it, so of course they were downvoted into oblivion.

There's always a few people in the comments calling out the article's ********, and they always have tons of downvotes. Ah, the beauty of the hive mentality.

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen Wok around much at all lately.

It's just a WAR vs. WPA illustration, tied to a real life example and some controversial organizational comments. Not that bad.
