burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 He's been through a lot in the past. Once again, you clearly know him on a personal level, so you know exactly what he's thinking and where he wants to play based on some articles you read years ago. I've heard from one of his teammates that he barely talks to anyone. He's kind of on his own island out there. Nothing wrong with that but that's just who he is which can give off a Dbag vibe.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 That may be true but how does that give off a douchebag vibe?... Apparently when people keep to themselves others assume they think they are to good for them. It's those people who have mental problems.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Not talking about the depression part. Also being slightly facetious but I'm using it in a loving way. He is a savant, how else do you explain him. All savants are mental. Calling him a hitting savant comes off a lot less derogatory than calling him mental. I'd stick with that if I were you.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Lets just call him the Glenn Gould of baseball. A genius, but not right in the head.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Lets just call him the Glenn Gould of baseball. A genius, but not right in the head. As someone who has read extensively about Gould and also read a lot of his correspondence, I would describe Gould as one of the most lucid, brilliant minds in music. "Not right in the head" is really off the mark.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Today I learned calling someone a hitting savant is still derogatory, just less so. FFS. Is that really going to be your take away?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 That may be true but how does that give off a douchebag vibe?... Well when friends of players come over and introduce themselves he wouldn't even shake their hands and barely even acknowledged they were there.

I asked if it was Baez. He said far from it, that Baez is the nicest, most liked guy in the org and that the leadership hierarchy among the players was Heyward, Ross then Baez. I would have never guessed that at all. What we see is almost never the story.

"Not right in the head" is really off the mark. not right in the head as in he wasn't normal and an extremely eccentric, peculiar character. His humming on the piano, his weird chair, coats in the summer, his perfection of Bach but ridiculous interpretations of Brahms, e.t.c.
TholesWeirdEye Verified Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 He's the fielder version of Zack Greinke.
keggy Verified Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Long-term extension for Tim Anderson. 6/25 for pre-free agent years with team options on his first two free agent years that could take it to 8/50.5. In a sense the ChiSox are buying high and assuming risk, but I can see the reasoning here. If Anderson busts, they flushed $25 mill down the toilet. If he becomes a star, they get big surplus from his two free agent years. I wouldn't have done this deal, but it's probably moderate-risk, high-reward.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 That may be true but how does that give off a douchebag vibe?... Agreed. Votto started his own foundation to help others who have or still are suffering from PTSD. He also frequently does kids-only press conferences where he spends time with kids and lets them ask him all sorts of questions. You can do everything right but as soon as someone hears an unverified story you get labelled. Jokes.

I wouldn't have done this deal, but it's probably moderate-risk, high-reward. Everyone keeps saying that he's got great raw power but hasn't shown it in game (like 30 HR's in 2000 PA's now), and he's too busy trying to beat out ground balls. He cut his K-rates as he progressed through the minors so it's possible they drop with experience too. Elvis Andrus only made about $17M through his arbitration years (before the big stupid contract) so the $25 might be a small overpay as they are likely similar defensively and along the numbers that they count in arbitration. I don't doubt that the contract will provide a solid surplus though.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 John Lackey even looks like a d-bag He was my second guess. Apparently not him either.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 got a chuckle out of the comments
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 He was my second guess. Apparently not him either. Kris Bryant married an ugly girl. What can we read into that? Schwarber looks like a frat guy.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Kris Bryant married an ugly girl. What can we read into that? Schwarber looks like a frat guy. I doubt it's Schwarber. They don't have a position for him so it would have been really easy for them to trade him away ostensibly for roster reasons without anyone batting an eyelash. I'd guess it's still Lackey despite the denial. You can't just keep giving people guesses. At some point, you just lie about it.
King Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 I would have guessed Soler assuming this was before they traded him away or Lester.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Kris Bryant married an ugly girl. What can we read into that? Small dick
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 can't be as bad as Bumgarner's wife I knew about Bryant's wife but you weren't kidding about Bumgarner's.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Bryant's wife isn't ugly at all wtf
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Bryant's wife isn't ugly at all wtf agreed. MadBum's however.. not "ugly", but not very attractive in any way at all.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 WAGs thread - go I don't actually think Mrs. Bryant is ugly. I do think she is basic. I've seen her called ugly on the internet. can we talk about what happened to Jennifer Cecil?
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 I would have guessed Soler assuming this was before they traded him away or Lester. My first guess. This for me, too.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 can we talk about what happened to Jennifer Cecil? Kids happened. Gained some weight and never lost it
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Great, good to know. Moving on. Can we get a current Blue Jays WAG power ranking?
