Lebron lives 25 minutes outside the city in a place called Bath, Ohio and the area looks nice enough to me. The word 'quaint' might even apply but I don't know if I have the experience to make that call.

 

Every city has its good and bad parts. Sure parts of Cleveland and Detroit suck but you know what so does Regent Park. With how many games baseball players play I'd say of all the sports the players have the least free time. They have what 6 or 7 home days off?

It will be hard to see the Jays rotation put up a season like last year, I expect a step back, especially with regards to Happ and Estrada. This team with its current make-up making the playoffs, seems alot less likely, although Shatkins might surprise us before the off season is over.

 

I think it's too early to tell. Stroman and Liriano could make up for any loss from Happ and Estrada. Conversely a significant injury to any of the rotation could seriously damage our chances.

 

I'd agree I'm a lot less confident of making the playoffs than last year, but as you say the off season has a long way to go.

It is unfortunate that Edwin decided to reject the offer from the FO but anyone in his position would do the same. You bet on yourself because you know you are one of the best hitters in the game.

 

The FO is running the team similar to how I would run a team in MLB The Show. The Jays need to supplement their roster with young players ASAP or they are looking at a longer rebuild.

 

Morales is going to have a solid year in Toronto and I would bet he provides surplus value. These are smart contracts that will not impact the clubs financial flexibility long term. A.A. really damaged the farm system knowing he was not going to return.

And it only cost him $20 million dollars. $20 million that could have gone to his family. Zero guarantees of winning despite how stacked. Edwin may be on the road for 1/2 the year but his family gets to live in the shithole that is Cleveland. Agent should be shot and pissed on.

I'm fine with the offer the organization made, and the subsequent decision to move on.

I'm fine with EE declining the offer to see what else was out there.

I'm fine with him signing a good deal for him with Cleveland.

 

Really, the only thing that irks me is Kinzer going on about how Edwin was disappointed not to be coming back and that Toronto was his first choice.

 

It's either a business decision, or a sentimental decision, and the Edwin camp comes across as trying to play both sides.

How is Edwin happy? He could have stayed in Toronto with $80 million, and now he gets to live in Fricking Cleveland for $60 million because of some greedy agent.

 

Residing does make a bit of a difference to a ball player, but not that much. Having said that, you have to think EE will take some time getting used to the massive drop off. Combine the fact that he settled for a lesser deal, the sour taste will linger for half a season. There's a good possibility EE struggles badly out of the gate.

He might actually come out ahead. Overall, he really didn't get seriously burned by declining the reported 4/80 offer. Do we know for sure that that offer didn't include a team option?

True, but he is no longer going to be with the team he wanted to be with in the first place where he could have moved up to maybe surpass some of the club records. Also, his fan support will no longer be as big as it was - having an entire country behind you.

 

As sad as I am to know he won't be with the BlueJays, situations like these are sometimes opportunities in disguise. Even though I cannot envision what opportunities that may be with this lineup, I know that in baseball and life too, things just have a way of working out.

 

Of one thing I am certain, Encarnacion not being on the team won't affect the quality of my life. He, like many other individuals, sometimes takes a gamble which didn't quite work out the way he thought it would. It is sad but it is a fact of life.

 

The only thing I cannot wrap my head around is why do people jeopardize what they like (good job, good city, lots of people who adore you etc., for a few dollars more. It's true the "few dollars more" is in the millions but seriously, how much wealth do you really need to accumulate?

His agent basically said that he was waiting, so the Blue Jays could have kept their offer. He made it seem like the blue jays withdrew their offer and moved on before waiting for EE to make his decision. So, ya, the Blue Jays end up with an 11m 0.9 war player vs 20m 3.5 war player. Their little game of trying to pressure EE into making his decision right away backfired.

 

That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is, Encarnacion agent's little game of trying to pressure the FO backfired. His client is not better off financially and is no longer with the club he wanted to be with.

 

Did you want the FO to sit back and not make any contingency moves while they waited for some club to offer a truckload of money for a player at his age? What would they be left with other than to end up with an albatross of a contract? Maybe something from the scrap heap or to bring someone up from the lower ranks who is just not ready? The choices have been made and a lot of individuals misread the market - not just the FO.

 

Sitting back and not doing anything was definitely not an option. I am sad, but glad as I hope the compensation pick is a great one.

Really??? I was not a fan of him in the first place but he made contingency plans and for that I am happy. Not so much with what they have right now but for being sensible. Also, anything can happen between now and the trade deadline. In the meantime, I will be at some games but if I find it is not worthwhile I will either find another team to follow or just move on to another type of entertainment. It's definitely not the end of the world.
