Who would you guys like to see round out the outfield? Edwin's probability of re-signing seems low, so the biggest acquisitions left are probably in the outfield. Ideally they get 2 outfielders, but they need 1 at minimum. Some names:

Free agents:

Jose Bautista

Mark Trumbo

Michael Saunders

Brandon Moss

Rajai Davis

Angel Pagan

Colby Rasmus

Potential trade candidates:

Jay Bruce

Charlie Blackmon

Carlos Gonzalez

Melky Cabrera

Curtis Granderson

Ryan Braun

Andrew McCutchen

There's a list of some of the obvious candidates. If anyone has some other candidates, it would be interesting to discuss.

Thanks

Not sure if Cutch gets moved at this point. Bucks will hope for him to rebound and then probably flip him at the trade deadline.

Jarrod Dyson is another potential trade target.

Just give me Bautista + Dyson and I'll be more than a happy man.

Other free agents

Luis Valbuena - just plop him in LF or something.

Trevor Plouffe - see above.

Austin Jackson

Desmond Jennings?

Gregor Blanco

Alejandro De Aza

Josh Hamilton - ???? is this guy retiring or what?

Angel Pagan

Chris Coghlan

Trade

Jarrod Dyson -- seemed like a great target until Adam Eaton got traded for that huge package. It seems like baseball values these defense first guys appropriately which is unfortunate to this end.

David Peralta

Seth Smith

Billy Hamilton

JD Martinez -- why does nobody in Blue Jay land talk about this guy?

Random realistic trade targets...

Brandon Drury (probably not available)

Socrates Brito

Tommy Pham

Tony Kemp

Jake Smolinski

Mark Zagunis

Scott Van Slyke

Derek Dietrich

Travis Jankowski (maybe a stretch)

Scott Schebler

Billy Burns

Eddie Rosario (maybe a stretch)

A lot of these names are bottom of the barrel. But I think most of them have some angle that is interesting.

At this point I kind of just expect Toronto to add a couple of warm bodies and not much more. But we'll see.

If they do so little as to just sign a guy like Valbuena (plop Pearce in LF) then I would be ecstatic.

I'd rather put my tongue three inches deep in Big Papi's ass than trade for Melky

Well said. Took the words right out of my mouth.

Howie Kendrick is a very realistic trade target imo.

He was traded like two days ago

Interesting, thanks for adding. I forgot that I saw a rumour about J.D. Martinez a couple weeks ago. That is for sure a great target, if they have enough to give up (which might not be the case).

In that same vein, how about Josh Harrison? Pirates apparently want to move him. The Jays need a 2B when Travis misses half the year, and Harrison has played some OF, 3B, etc, as well. Could be a versatile option.

Actually, Valbuena would be a really nice pickup. He's projected at 1.5 WAR next season, but I think he'll outperform that given regular playing time. Real good splits. Can hit for power. Can take a walk. He can basically play anywhere in the infield (nice backup incase Travis gets injured as well). And then you could put Pearce in LF.

Harrison doesn't have much experience in the OF (and what little he does, he was terrible). Kendrick is actually above average in LF it appears, but still has the flexibility to fill in at 2nd if needed.

Huh? Last I saw he was traded a month ago to the Phillies, and the expectation was that he would be flipped. What did I miss?

Who is expecting him to be flipped?

I think it's obvious that they will try to trade him for profit at the trade deadline. That's different though.

Think the other Josh (Bell) will always be this bad at D. Pirates are likely to move someone this off season.

J.D. Martinez is an appalling defender. That is all.

He had the second worst UZR in the league iirc. Even Bautista was a better defender. No thanks to JD Martinez.

I still think they move Cutch. Wait for the hullabaloo to die down, teams will miss on targets, he'll look more attractive.

JD Martinez broke his elbow running into the outfield wall in June.

I wonder if that incident (associated fear) significantly impacted his defense in the second half.

At this point let see what Pompey has in him, platoon Zeke/Upton, and July 1st we can start talking about what JD will bring at the trade deadline and whether or not Rogers learned a lesson not to f*** around after setting attendance and tv records.

Exactly. Someone will pay their price.

Then they have that Austin Meadows fellow that they'd like to unleash on the league.

While that narrative is a possible explanation for why 2016 was by far his worst defensive season, with the exception of 2015 (still was a negative defender, mind you), he's always been pretty pitiful.
