It might be, but does there not come a point where it becomes worth the effort to at least try?

No point in spending a few hundred million to find out. Might as well use that money towards a new ballpark imo

Oh, I'm all for building a new stadium, but Rogers seem to be married to this spot.

Is there anyway to make it less ugly? It's just too much concrete. There has to be some sort of siding they could put on it?

I see they need to replace the roof in the coming years as well. Would be a good opportunity to make that more appealing from the inside. The Astros stadium has a much more appealing roof. Perhaps they could put some blue scaffolding on the inside of it.

Yeah, they could absolutely add a siding, but the cost would be huge, depending on the type. I dunno if brick would work very well aesthetically, it's pretty damn expensive but it would be durable. A PEIFS stucco type of cladding would probably look good, is cheaper but not very durable. I don't think simply painting it would accomplish much. I dunno, it's not an easy fix.

and so when the Rays move out of the Trop...and even Montreal builds a charming grass ballpark...then the big market Blue Jays will be the last team in the history of MLB to play on artificial turf ... and for 30 more years no less

Doesn't a Montreal franchise depend on the Rays moving out of Tampa?

ideally, yes ... get the Rays out of our division!

but ... last year Manfred said that Montreal & Mexico City were his two personal frontrunners for expansion teams (obviously, he didn't want to create huge negative headlines in TB)

I'm not sure a team in Mexico City would be nearly as likely now as it may have been a year ago.

A couple of days ago, Manfred mentioned Las Vegas as being a "viable market."

Who would want to play in Mexico City? Everyone would just get robbed

Tourists, players, players families..

yeah, but ya get cheap avocados & tequila etc. (after Trump slaps a 30% tariff on Mexican imports)

Yeah I think there is way too much instability down there to have a team IMO.

Good points. I just think of Coors Field and how it's all brick which helps it blend in with the surrounding area. A huge dome of concrete is an eyesore but you're right, it would cost a shitload to do anything about it.

Hitters. Mexico City is at an even higher altitude than Coors. The hitting stats would be insane.

It's not just about that, it's a pretty scary place to have a hundred million dollar baseball team play. I think hitters would prefer not to have to fear for their life rather than get dem dingers.

I apologize for not reading the entire thread, but one thing I'd do is open up the old Hard Rock Cafe as an extension of the FlightDeck (it's easily connectable) OR having the Jays open it as a Jays themed restaurant. Even if it's only open on Jays game days, I gotta imagine it'd do enough business to make it viable, and with tickets being at a premium right now you'd think people would watch games from there.

I wasn't sure if this has been posted, but I'll post it here in case it wasn't.

Someone posted this on Reddit, taken from an article by Andrew Stoeten, regarding future stadium renovations:

A source with knowledge of proposals made by an architectural design firm working with the Blue Jays on the project told The Athletic it would be a “dramatic reconfiguration.” For example, one consideration is to rotate the entire field clockwise. In this scenario the Flight Deck would now sit along the left field line, and when the roof is open the CN Tower would be in view as backdrop for fans sitting behind the plate. The giant video scoreboard that's now in centre would remain, helping to break the too-symmetrical cookie cutter nature of the current setup. To that end, the fence line in this reconfiguration could change to have a bit more “real ballpark” character, and the area that would become right field might become an open concourse — something that is perhaps made possible by the fact that there is still room on that side of the building to expand its footprint to the east. (The source adds that, were they to do this, much would need to be done to reconfigure the roof for sunlight/shadow reasons, but tells me that there is a solution for this.)

Rotated field or not, not only does reconfiguring and upgrading the building's seats seem to be a given (having all seats actually face the action on the field would be a huge improvement), but openness seems the order of the day, whether that be more patio spaces like the ones at Petco Park in San Diego, or simply by widening concourses by expanding the building outward and removing seats. Interestingly, the source adds that another large part of the plan involves making the Dome a destination that can generate revenue during the offseason. This doesn't mean more Monster Truck rallies, but by making the Dome a destination people go to when the Jays aren't playing. For example, one of the things that was pitched was to open/run local restaurants throughout the 200 level to give the ballpark a more “Toronto” feel.

This would be a huge change.

The Atlantic did an okay job with it's hiring...how in the f*** did Stoeten get a job with them?

I like anything that opens up the stadium a little

Here's an early model for the SkyDome

From that perspective you'd be able to see the CN Tower from behind home plate.

Someone form the same reddit posted a photo of what such a viewpoint might look like

Imagine if you had the CN Tower and surrounding buildings as the backdrop?

I think it would be incredible if they could pull of an extensive renovation like that. It doesn't seem feasible to complete in a 5 month off-season during the winter though. They would possibly have to push us to play elsewhere or give us a heavy early road schedule to complete that in time. Will be interesting to see what they decide to do.

The year-round restaurants and lounge area are pretty damn good ideas. Could probably make other attractions there too like an arcade or (wait for it) a casino.

You're not allowed to change dimensions, regardless. ;)

You're also not allowed to build parks with RF and LF shorter than 325 feet, but we all know how well that is enforced.

Yeah, the grandfather rule... err Yankees' rule.
