Mehhh. Not sure about Fowler. I think he's more of a true 2.5 WAR player and I'd rather get Turner even if it means paying more.

I think we're ok at 3B

We dont need a 3rd baseman. Fowler is younger, got on base more last season is a lefty and will likely cost less.

I thought Turner played some LF. Nevermind then.

Even if he has played some OF, he's going to get big money from someone to be their starting 3B.

What kind of defensive value would Fowler have in a corner?

If he is a slightly below average defender in CF now, he would project to be average to above average at a corner. Having Pillar beside him might help too.

Is there actual data to support this? I understand the logic behind it but if you have a noodle arm center fielder he still might not translate well in a corner spot (That's actually a point from BBBB).

Plus if you have never played corner field it is actually quite different from Center in so many ways, hence why I keep pimping Pagen as he at least had played a corner field spot, and money and years would be considerably less!

To be fair Ive just read this before, probably on fangraphs. Either way, Fowler is an upgrade defensively on Saunders and Jose.

Interestingly enough Steamer projects Jose to be worth more WAR next season. Significantly better offensively and moderately worse on defense (than Fowler)

He does play a pretty good First though too! (SSS) and also can play multiple posistions ao between him and Pearce you do get some insane insurance even if Donalson needs a day off or insurance if he gets dinged a Lil too!

If they could meet in the middle at 66M/4 I think that's a pretty solid deal.

Fowler at even 70M/4 plus Pearce is still less than what they were willing to pay Eddie...2 for the price of 1. Similar to what they did last year...Estrada and Happ over Price. I love this administration.

Huh ? 17.5 + 6 = 23+

70 + 12 = 82

4/80 what kinda Vooda math ya using? Lol

17+6.25 = 23.25

EE likely would have accepted 4/90 at minimum = 22.5

How is Dexter Fowler worth 15 million let alone the 18 million he thinks he is.

His bat isn't that great. How does he makeup for it?

How isn't he worth $15 million? He was worth $26 and $37 million the last two years. Even if you take his 3.3 and 4.7 WAR seasons as flukes; his ~2.1-2.3 WAR seasons still peg him at over $15 million.

Baseball is more than how well you can hit, which Fowler does pretty well regardless. But he plays at least an average corner outfield and is a huge asset on the basepaths. Which is a great thing considering he gets on base a lot.

He put up a 129 wRC+ last year, which was 28th in baseball (tied with Machado). He has a good bat, he just doesn't hit lots of home runs.

The key to Fowler's value over four years with the Jays is how he handles defence in left or right. If he's above average and his bat remains above average, then he's probably worth 4/72 even factoring decline as he gets older. Like I said I don't think he's a big fan of signing with the Jays unless he gets paid more than anyone else is willing to give him, so it depends on how much Shatkins likes him.

Are the Jays looking to sign two outfielders? If we sign Fowler does that mean we lose interest in Curtis Granderson?

I'd personally rather sign Granderson. He has the bigger at bat and has a proven track for hitting home runs and RBIs even though didn't hit many RBIs last year.

At least as of this morning, according to MLB TR, the Jays and Fowler are "apart" in talks. It mentions some other teams getting involved, or possibly being involved.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/rumblings-fowler-jays-cards-astros-rangers-nathan-salty.html

He's coming off an All Star season so of course he's going to ask for a premium price, along with a career high OBP.

Like some of said, it might take more money than the Jays are willing to pay out (last rumour I've heard the payroll is going to be about $160M, leaving the Jays only about $25M to fill out the OF, back-up catcher, and some BP arms), so he might be priced out of town, and how well does he handle being moved to another position, how well does he age? If he declines, the Jays could be on the hook for a good chunk of money for someone who isn't up to par.

Personally, I don't see him coming to the Jays if he wants $18M/year and the Jays only have roughly $25M to work with, with some holes to fill elsewhere. Unless they backload the deal, then they could screw the payroll down the line.

It's only the end of Monday, and they landed Pearce for a reasonable amount, so they might be able to pull off a few more low risk-high reward kind of signings, or maybe a trade that comes out of nowhere.

I can see maybe point one being true and point 3 being somewhat true. But your second point is pure assuming as what proof or stats are you basing that on? That is speculation not fact to how you stated it to be.
