Players will consent to look good to their current bosses and to be "team players".

I have a good source who told me that Saunders saved the team a lot of grief over one of his injuries, for example.

The Hamstring?

So does this mean the trade deadline might get crazy!

It sure will

If you have a star quality player who is in his walk year, you'd rather trade him for a couple prospects at the deadline than just get a second round pick

Well if he's on your team, and you QO them, of course there's incentive. It'll likely be better to trade said player at the deadline to get your compensation though.

Yeah, kind of a double edged sword. I think it mostly gets rid of any notion of a player accepting unless if they're a real marginal case. I mean, for a guy like Bautista, he can reject the QO, and even if his market dries up and he "only" signs for 2/40 or 3/45, then the team isn't paying a penalty to sign him anyways. And if it really dried up fast, he can likely still get 1/15 or even 1/20 knowing that the team isn't paying a pick to sign him anyways.

But yeah, it also makes the reward a lot less. For a guy like Saunders, it's probably almost impossible to think of him signing for 50+M, so we wouldn't even think about giving him the QO.

The main guys who it might affect would be the middle tier guys like Reddick, were he QO-eligible. He signed for 4/52 - if he had a QO attached to him, he likely settles for 4/48 to avoid the team paying the compensation pick to him. But with the compensation for signing guys lowered, teams will still be willing to give big deals to guys like Fowler, Bautista, etc...

The one thing that could impact things is that since guys can only be offered the QO once, maybe a guy like Bautista is more likely to sign a 1 year deal this year, knowing that next year he's guaranteed to not have any compensation tied to his next deal.

Pretty much... good post. Except for the latter paragraph, players this year are exempt from the new CBA until next off-season.

Unless you're in a pennant race, it'll be tricky. There will certainly be more players moved at the deadline, though.

A team that signs two QO free agents would lose next highest pick(s). Over luxury-tax threshold: 3rd and 6th rd in addition to 2nd and 5th.

Important detail: Teams that get revenue sharing get pick after 1st round for QO guys with $50M+ deals, pick after 2nd for sub-$50M QO guys.

The top slot in the draft will be lower in 2017 than previous four years. It’s $7.4M. Overall $ devoted to the domestic draft won't change.

Every home clubhouse must now have a chef. And spring-training buses must have at least two seats per player. This was important to them.

Exactly, we wouldn't have traded either of those guys this year, regardless of this new CBA.

The chef I understand, but two seats per player sounds like some kind of man-child complaining.

Omg the carbon footprint of major league teams growing out of control !!! Lol

Surprise they didn't ask for Seperate limo's to and fro for all travel !!!

The cold cuts era is over. Now if you want to slather your dick on the buffet, you'll have to do it with catered food.

When do code of conduct and rules for Umps get decided by the league?

Media availability after games should be a thing and a requirement under it!

Crew Chief at least! Wait can we used that term even now these days???

Or is it crew Captian ( some drunken Maritimer gonna object to this) he ain't no Captian !

No more chaw, according to MLBTR. Grandfathered in for existing mouth cancer patients.

Seems silly. I would like to know how they are planning on enforcing this.

They likely won't. Just be slap on the wrist fines. Policy probably just in place to make it "look like they are doing the right thing".

I'm assuming it's just an "on field/in clubhouse" deal. Don't wanna be a bad influence on the children.

I didn't see it mentioned here, but teams can trade all of their new international bonus allotments, and can add up to 75% of their initial capacity via trade.

Jays should target teams who don't value them as much like the Orioles and Angels.

Posted
Good for them, to step in. That's horseshit.

Yeah for sure. They got $34 million for 2015 alone yet only spent 84 million on payroll. Losing 34 million is a big loss.

Good strategy if there's a player you really covet and plan a year in advance

The annual ritual of rookies having to wear dresses or costumes may be over. There's an anti-hazing and anti-bullying implemented in CBA

Marc Topkin ‏@TBTimes_Rays 2m2 minutes ago

Okay, 1 more CBA note: Implementation of anti-hazing/-bullying policy could be end of rookie dressup ritual

Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 2m2 minutes ago

It also could end days of newest rookie relievers carrying a Barbie bag to the bullpen in anti hazing rule

I get the issues that come with some types of hazing (specifically the Texas Rangers DSL team) but I find this to be silly. Does anyone including the players actually care if they dress up in silly costumes on the flight to their next city.
