Trade for Seth Smith

Buy a RP at the deadline

Plan the parade.

We have 25M to spend

Not 40

Why do you keep saying this arbitrary number... did Atkins say this? I've asked Ang, but he's MIA...

Yes I think Atkins said it on the air, about $25MM to spend on OF, Back up catcher, BP

backup catcher should be almost free. 17M for Fowler leaves us with only 8M for BP. We need more unless we want to see Smoak at 1B at lot

Not giving Edwin 3/60 is almost indefensible. One of the league's most underrated sluggers is being underrated in a weak market.

Part of me can't help but think that Edwin does have offers but he's holding out hope that Shatkins circle back around to him.

Agreed, at some point the value is just too good, and you hope the Jays realize before some other teams do

Best attendance in MLB and Rogers are still cheapskates.. ugh.

We're estimated at 142.5 right now... 167 million is not being cheap, and who knows about that number come the deadline. It's pretty flippin good.

This is a derp post. If they signed EE and Fowler there would be no need for SS.

Can someone confirm that with the new CBA that AAV is used for luxury tax purposes? That really only ends up impacting a handful of teams.

They could go after both Fowler and Eddy and back-load those contracts as money comes off in the next few years.

Yes, it's AAV.

I feel like if there's ever a time for Shapiro to test his trust with Rogers, now would be a pretty damn good time. Do what it takes to land Fowler and if it means they won't give you an extra couple milly to land Chris Iannetta.. oh well. Pick up scraps for our remaining pieces or worry about making trades later like you did with Grilli/Benoit. Maybe I'm being narrow-minded but I'd rather have the larger piece of our problem solved before worrying about our 2nd catcher & back end of the BP.

Doesn't the statcast data he's using for this just not capture a bunch of events, including all very weak contact?

In the blurb he said Tulo got killed on flyballs.

Troy Tulowitzki might be a bit of a surprise in the No. 2 spot on this list. The reason is fairly simple: MLB hitters produced a .686 AVG and 2.368 SLG on fly balls hit between 100-105 mph in 2016. Tulo recorded 32 such fly balls and hit only .562 AVG-1.750 SLG on them. His Unadjusted Fly Ball Contact Score was 116, while his strong authority in the air supported a much higher 164 mark. I do believe that Tulowitzki has peaked; the days of better-than-average K and BB rates seem to be behind him, but he retains the power upside to remain a top-tier offensive shortstop

At the bottom of the article he claims Matt Holliday is a better hitter than EE and says he'll be a beast in NY.

For his 1B/DH report he said Morales will as well. FWIW Morales wRC+ adjusted score was 151.

Back loading is pretty dangerous, unless it's a smaller amount in which case inflation takes care of it. I mean if Fowler gets 16M per, giving him 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 could work, or something to that effect. Doing what we did with Martin, etc probably wouldn't be wise though. Maybe Eddie would accept half the money to be deferred or something (without interest), although that's not ideal either in terms of future budgets.

I wasn't concerned specifically with the implication on Tulo. I've just been under the impression that the statcast info he has access to is missing information on a certain type of contact, which makes an 'adjusted wRC+' pretty irresponsible, especially with no disclaimer.

But maybe I'm wrong and he's not missing data.

I don't think so. It says every ball in play is talken into account.

http://www.double-birds.com/2016/12/06/the-matheny-fowler-rumors-are-seriously-alarming/

"As early as last week, though, whispers of a roadblock to a potential deal began cropping up in local media. “There are rumors,” said Frank Cusumano on his radio show, “that Dexter Fowler does not want to play for Mike Matheny.” Bernie Miklasz expressed a similar thought. Derrick Goold and Ben Hochman spent a good chunk of the latest Best Podcast in Baseball seeming to acknowledge the “grumblings” and things “in the wind” with regard to Fowler and alluding to unspecified “aspects” of the Cardinals “culture” that might not be a fit for certain players. Cusumano implied again this morning that Fowler is reluctant to sign with the Cardinals, albeit this time without mentioning Matheny."

Supposedly Matheny is very serious, the culture is serious, no fun allowed in the clubhouse, religious ect. Complete opposite to the Cubs.
