Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Well Jay Bruce was willing to waive it last year. This isn't a new development.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 why? he blows Lol.... Who do you recommend?
bowld Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Would rather have Navarro to be honest. I watching Chris play a ton here in Anaheim and he was awful at the plate and a huge rally killer. Also from Rotoworld-- Iannetta owns a rough .199/.298/.332 batting line over the last two seasons
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 People have unreal expectations for a backup catcher. I mean Thole was really bad... but don't think we are going to replace him with a good hitter.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 why? he blows Compared to Thole he's Johnny Bench. We need a real backup catcher, f*** Dioner

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 What is up with Ianetta's pitch framing? It's been really good and really bad depending on the year.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 why? he blows He'd be a back-up catcher with a little bit of pop, a fair eye at the plate, and a decent glove. I think he sounds like the perfect guy to spell Martin every fourth day if we're strictly looking at the FA pile.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 This would be great. Iannetta's framing numbers are horrible (except for 2015 for some reason). He's basically Navarro in all aspects, except he doesn't switch hit.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 His framing numbers are weird. I remember he said he changed his technique in 2015 which resulted in him being good, but he went back to being crap last year.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 We should honestly just promote AJ Jimenez and use the money elsewhere. He likely only costs 3 million. I think that justifies the upgrade in Jimenez and the additional depth.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I honestly wouldn't have minded him at that price.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Relavent: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-two-things-chris-iannetta-represents/ Maybe having Martin around helps him.

I'm honestly not even sure. He's projected for 1.1 WAR, which would be great, but what are the chances he provides anywhere near that in a backup role?
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2016 Author Posted December 7, 2016 I like Chris Iannetta. He can hit a bit, and always gets a lot of praise for his ability to handle a staff. Not sure where his framing talent actually falls, but at 1/4 or something I think he'd make a nice backup. If Martin does go down, I trust an Iannetta/Jimenez tandem to handle the staff more than I trust a Jimenez/McGuire tandem.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 What would it take to get Blackmon? Stroman?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Rangers out on Edwin--not surprising after giving Gomez that money, plus the fact they don't want to block Joey Gallo and need pitching more than anything, plus they're still paying part of Fielder's deal (Tigers and medical insurance for Fielder's neck injury are paying the rest)

If he can be a 90wRC+ bat thats great value and likely half a win. 3-4 Million is barely anything and don't forget you are getting insurance against Martin going on the DL
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Holy s***, Ryan Doumit's "improvement" between 2008 and 2009 is hilarious. Lol I forgot about him and how horrible his framing was. That guy went from sabremetric hero to zero really quick when pitch framing hit the scene.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 What would it take to get Blackmon? Stroman? I wish. f***ing love Blackmon.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I wonder what the cost would be like to get Vogt, now that he's reaching arbitration years? Or perhaps Rupp now that Alfaro is knocking on the door in Philly? Vogt could split time at 1st, DH, and catcher, maybe even outfield in a pinch. Rupp is an average framer with good defense, and the bat is playable for a backup catcher.
