Makes Puig look a bit more attractive as a trade target, but also makes him more valuable. Wonder what it would take to get him.

So we sit at 127 mill today, if you take Jays had a budget projection that included 20 mill for EE, 17 mill for a possible Batz

Qo take and let's say another 15 mill to fill out the team... Opening day budget or money approved by Rogers would be

Almost 179 mill interesting. If you remove Batz's 168 that's still good... Now if they claw back EE money we may only have

148 To maybe 158 mill. I was hope for a Lil bit more myself, I saw 165- 170 mill.

According to the Toronto Star, the Blue Jays signed 33 year-old right-handed starter John Thomson for $500,000 plus incentives. The 33 year-old has a mild labrum tear and was affected by elbow soreness and a blister in ’16 as well.

Morosi was on Sid and Tim yesterday and was talking about an Eatin for Stroman swap. Da f*** with that

Eaton would be a great addition but not at that price.

Wait, why aren't we on board with an Eaton/Stroman swap? Eaton has five more years of cheap team control and has been worth more than 12 fWAR over the last 3 years, including a 6-win 2016. Stroman only has 4 years of remaining control, and he's a pitcher, so his arm is probably going explode anyway. I think trading him for Eaton would be a no-brainer, especially given the hole in RF. If you can shift a long term investment in a pitcher to a long term investment in a hitter, who has outperformed that pitcher, and is controllable for longer, and plays a position of need, I don't see how you turn that down.

I was going to say the same thing. Eaton has been so consistent offensively over the past 3 seasons, and vastly improved his defence last season. He'd be an ideal leadoff hitter and fill a huge need on this club. I do that trade all day long.

And you can cross your fingers that a lot of the defensive gains stick, because he'd be in RF again this year with Pillar in CF. I don't think Chicago would move him for an MLB SP given that they'd be subtracting from a weak area and adding to a strength, and Eaton is objectively more valuable, but he's pretty much a perfect fit for this team, both offensively and defensively.

From what I understand, the premise behind trading Eaton is that they need to do tear-down and rebuild and by the time that's over, Eaton will be in his decline. Stroman is a little younger than Eaton but also has one less year of control. Will their rebuild be over within the 4 years of control? Would they plan to extend him? Seems like they would be better off targeting high end prospects but that's not any concern of the Jays.

Agreed, not sure it makes sense for Chi, but if they end up trading Sale maybe they feel they've got room for a SP. f***, if Kenny Williams has any say in it we might be able to get away with giving them Happ because winz

I just don't see what the selling off of Eaton for Pitching in which Quintana and Sale are locked up until 2019 or something. You would have to assume they would want young position players or prospects.... I can't see it.
