I'm not certain that Shapiro and Atkins would even spend 160 if they had it.

They could, based on internal risk tolerant extensions. I'm thinking extensions to the likes of JD, Stroman, Sanchez, and Osuna; combined with RFA signings.

It would be nice to get some sort of sense of what Rogers is willing to spend on payroll. The discussion around what the club should do will change in many people's eyes if projected payroll is around 140, 150, 160 or 170. I hope the Blue Jays raise payroll parameters, but I'm not convinced they will.

I think they will. The budget will be requested by Shapiro after he picks the best off season plan proposed to him by Atkins and staff. Atkins has stated they expect a higher payroll so I'm sure the proposals will all reflect that and I really believe Rogers will be pretty amenable to whatever they ask for. I have a feeling Shapiro can be pretty impressive in a boardroom and I'm sure their ask will be properly backed up by the numbers. I'm damn glad we have this FO in place.

I'm not against any of those extensions, but they would have a minimal impact on the 2017 payroll.

We should be in the TEX/LAA territory of 170-180M not the BAL-SEA range of 150-160M.

If you give this front office 180M only good can come of it. It would be the best combo of FO intelligence + resources in the AL.

Dodgers?

now that the off season is here, lets Revisit trading with Colorado as i suggested as it would seem wise and we have a want for left hand batters and it fits financially for both teams!

how close does something along the trade lines of this get us,close?

Pillar, Upton and one of Alford or Pompey

Smoak and Rowdy

and one of Liriano or Happ

its a start, how close?

would you do it?

Whoops !!! added just because Spanky is a stickler for details.... For charlie blackmon and Carlos gonzalez but of course!!!!

Quote from BA's John Manuel...

"Bigger changes are coming. Longtime righthanded power plants Jose Bautista, who has averaged nearly 30 homers per year over nine seasons with Toronto, and Edwin Encarnacion, who has averaged 39 homers annually the last five years, are both pending free agents. Neither is likely to be back, and the Jays probably will try to hold payroll in the $119-137 million range it has held in the last four seasons."

John Manuel really has no idea what the payroll would be. He covers every team so he's likely just pulling a number out of his ass.

Mean while Shapiro says we will likely be a top 10 for Payroll.... I don't think anyone really knows what the payroll will be.... If i was a betting man i would put it at 150 ish

lol, the current team costs like $117M and probably finishes under 0.500. Less than 140M would basically be impossible given the current structure of the team.

Even that is low... 160 or better. Up the dough, Rogers!

There should be no reason the Blue Jays dont have a payroll north of $175 mill. This city and country has shown what happens when you have a competitive and well-loved baseball team. We led the AL in attendance, merchandise sales are through the roof. Everywhere I turn I see Jays caps, t-shirts, jerseys. Over 1 million viewers per game is staggering, whats that kind of advertising $$ worth to Rogers? I tried to find info online and I could be wrong but it looks like the Jays get more TV views per game than Boston, NY, Chicago and LA combined. The Diamondbacks signed a TV deal last year for $75mill a season and they dont get 10% of the views the Blue Jays do.

How does MLB determine how much "local" TV deals are worth to Rogers for TV revenue sharing?

I think you are wrong, this team does not finish under .500 without any additions.

I expect better from you,

Replacement 48

Donaldson 7

Tulo 3

Travis 3

Martin 2

Pillar 4

SP 15

RP 3

Thats 84 Wins for you, without any contributions from Smoak, Upton, Travis, Goins, or any promotions from AAA

TV revenue figures are constantly rehashed around here, but all we can do is guess. What we DO know, is that the advertising rates we get here in Canada is a fraction of what they get in the States for the same number of viewers. Also, merchandise sales are part of revenue sharing, as are 31% of other local revenue. Of the revenue sharing, I don't think we get the full amount of that back either because we're in a bigger market. I think we also outsource the concessions (no idea why), so probably don't get much if anything extra from that.

Also, keep in mind with New York that the Yankees managed to get a deal pushed through with YES network that is insane. Basically everyone in New York with cable has to pay for YES whether they want it or not, and I think it's $10 or $20 a month that they pay. I have no idea how anyone was willing to let that get passed.

What about the $300 Million increase in captial value that Rogers has seen in the Bluejays in the last 2 years.

but I guess things like that dont count.

They purchased Skydome for a laughable $25mill, what was the taxpayers funding portion of it? $400mill in the late 80s?

I understand advertising dollars dont go as far in Canada but when you look at the math, its still a joke.

This team should be in the top 3-7 payroll without a doubt.

You typed Travis twice.

I think if payroll is 140 or under, you gotta blow it up as there would be too many holes to fill with 20m to spend barring trades. I'm hoping for 165 plus

Just a throw in the dark guess, but I'll say the payroll will be $160m. Anything less than that with the contracts currently on the team and either they'll have to take a step back, or try to make a lateral move by sending a big contract in a trade (Tulo or Martin). I can't see payroll being lower than 2016. That makes no sense.
