The split keeps the Herd a game above .500, as Buffalo ends Tuesday with a 56-55 record. Game One The Chiefs ended the Bisons' three-game win streak in game one, besting Buffalo 5-1, thanks to a big four-run second inning. With a 5:35 p.m. start time, Syracuse got off to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Chiefs loaded the bases with no one out in the bottom of the inning against Bisons' starter Casey Lawrence, due to an error by shortstop Andy Burns, a walk, and an infield single. A sac-fly by Matt Skole brought home Chris Bostick, although Lawrence stranded runners on second and third later in the frame, limiting the damage to one run. Darrell Ceciliani deposited his eighth home run of the year for the Bisons in the top of the second, tying the game at a run a piece. It was the only run the Herd could muster in the opening battle. In the bottom of the second, Syracuse once again loaded the bases to lead off the inning, this time scoring four runs. A pair was driven in on a two-run double by Bostick. Domonic Brown made a leaping grab for an out later in the frame on a shot by Brian Goodwin, as Jose Lozada scored on what amounted to a sac-fly. Skole then plated his second RBI of the game, knocking a run across with a single to right field. Lawrence allowed five runs, while only two were earned thanks to errors by Burns and Lawrence himself. He settled down after a rough second inning, retiring 13 hitters in a row from the final out of the second to the final out of the sixth. He lowers his Triple-A ERA from 3.98 to 3.86, but his win-loss record now sits at 2-4. Taylor Hill pitched effectively in the start for the Chiefs. He stranded runners on first and second in the fifth, recording three consecutive outs to avoid damage. He picked up four strikeouts, and allowed only four hits, as his record improves to 5-9. Outside of Ceciliani's homer, A.J. Jimenez tallied two hits, while Andy Burns added the only other hit for the Herd. Koda Glover entered in relief for Syracuse in the seventh, sealing the Chiefs win with a game-ending strikeout of Andy Burns. http://i.imgur.com/kixbXXW.png http://i.imgur.com/j9XBCyG.png http://i.imgur.com/aFDgDPO.png Game Two Things got dicey in the second game, but the Bisons' held on for a 4-0 shutout win. Matt Dominguez connected for a two-run double in the top of the first, giving the Herd its first lead of the day. Playing in his first game since July 5 was Jio Mier, who plated a run with a RBI fielder's choice in the second, giving the Herd a 3-0 lead. He last drove in a run on June 19, when he connected for his second home run of the year against Lehigh Valley. With catcher Erik Kratz on first with a single in the fourth inning, Chiefs' starter and former Bison Aaron Laffey threw away an attempted pickoff, allowing Kratz to move into scoring position. He was brought home on another RBI by Mier, who singled to score the fourth Buffalo run. Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte started for the second time this season. He fanned four hitters through the first two innings, including a punch out of Brian Jeroloman in the second, which stranded two runners on base to end the inning. He left after 4.0 innings of shutout ball, besting the 3.0 innings he hurled on July 3, his last start with Buffalo. Buffalo's Aaron Loup allowed two hits out of the bullpen in the fifth, but notched three strikeouts in the inning. Dustin Antolin pitched a perfect sixth, but ran into trouble in the seventh, as Zach Collier came through with a ground-rule double for the Chiefs, followed by a Brian Jeroloman walk. With Ryan Tepera on the mound in relief of Antolin, Matt Dominguez speared a shot at third by Chris Bostick, tagging the base for a force out. A fly out of Brian Goodwin and a liner to Chris Colabello ended the threat and the ballgame. Tepera earns his 16-straight save, while Loup is credited with this third win of the year Aaron Laffey pitched 5.0 innings in his start for Syracuse, allowing four runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits. Trevor Gott retired the Bisons in order in the sixth, and Erik Davis pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the Chiefs. Game three of the Herd's four-game set in Syracuse is scheduled for 6:36 p.m. on Wednesday. Scott Copeland will make his third start with the Bisons this year, and will be opposed by Austin Voth. BISONS NOTES: Before the two games on Tuesday, the Bisons activated Colt Hynes, Bobby Korecky and Jio Mier from the disabled list, and added Junior Lake, who was outrighted by the Blue Jays. Starter Drew Hutchison was traded to Pittsburgh on Monday, relievers Danny Barnes and Bo Schultz were recalled to Toronto, and Ryan Goins was optioned to the Herd after his 13-game rehab assignment with the Bisons. Buffalo reliever Ben Rowen was also designated for assignment by the Blue Jays… Domonic Brown ended his 16-game hitting streak, going hitless in game one… Casey Lawrence has a 1.99 ERA in his six starts since returning to the Herd on July 5… Pat Venditte has yet to allow a run on the road, hurling 18.2 shutout innings away from Coca-Cola Field. http://i.imgur.com/XNvUVfN.png http://i.imgur.com/d9sscda.png http://i.imgur.com/VS91ATW.png Manchester - Emilio Guerrero homered to put the Fisher Cats in front and Roemon Fields drove in two runs in a 6-4 win over the Akron RubberDucks Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Guerrero's two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth inning put New Hampshire in front for the first time in the game. Jeremy Gabryszwski (6-8) earned his first win in more than a month, working the first five innings. Murphy Smith tossed two scoreless innings and Chris Smith worked two innings for his eighth save for the Fisher Cats (48-60). Akron (55-55) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Greg Allen led off with a single and Luigi Rodriguez walked. Allen went to third on a flyout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nellie Rodriguez. Mike Papi doubled in a run and Joe Sever plated Papi with a single for a 3-0 lead. The Fisher Cats battled back in the bottom of the frame to make it 3-2. Christian Lopes doubled, Ryan Lavarnway singled and Rowdy Tellez singled for the first run. Jason Leblebijian beat out an infield single as Lavaranway for another run. In the fourth inning, Derrick Loveless singled and stole second ahead of the Guerrero home run. The shot off starter and loser Nick Pasquale (1-5) gave New Hampshire a lead they would not give up. Roemon Fields drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth inning with a bunt single, and added an RBI in the bottom of the eighth with a double after Lopes had walked. Akron's Todd Hankins drove in the final run of the night with a fielders choice in the top of the ninth but Chris Smith got pinch-hitter Jordan Smith to groundout to end the game with a man on base. Game two of the series with Akron will be on Wednesday at 12:05 p.m, a Camp Colors Day at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. LHP Shane Dawson (6-4, 3.54) is the scheduled starter for the Fisher Cats against RHP D. J. Brown (5-6, 4.63) for the RubberDucks. Threw fastball on 69 of 79 pitches #BlueJays http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/game-report-yennsy-diaz/#CpHKek9bZwfXou0i.97 BURLINGTON, N.C.—Yennsy Diaz got too much of the plate in his first three outings this season. In his next three, the 19-year old Dominican righthander didn’t get enough of it. If his most recent start was any indication though, the Blue Jays’ preseason No. 19 prospect might have finally found a happy medium. Diaz pitched six scoreless innings with two hits allowed, one walk and eight strikeouts on Tuesday, leading Rookie-level Bluefield to a 5-0 win over Burlington (Royals) in an Appalachian League matinee contest. “Today the biggest adjustment he made was he was throwing strikes down in the zone,” Bluefield pitching coach Tony Caceres said. “He’s been up a little bit too much and getting around the ball, and then his fastball tends to flatten out a little bit up in the zone and that’s when they take good swings, and then he’d start pulling off and missing on the sides. Today when he threw one up, the next two were down. He made good pitches and made adjustments each pitch.” Diaz mostly sat 92-95 mph with his fastball, topping out at 96, and carried his velocity into the middle innings. He threw a fastball on 69 of his 79 pitches, largely because he didn’t feel the need to throw much else. Six of his eight strikeouts came on fastballs. “I felt good with my fastball today so threw a lot of them,” Diaz said through a translator. “It was locating well. I didn’t feel like I was throwing hard. It was nice and easy and it was good.” Diaz added eight curveballs that ranged from 76-80 mph and two changeups that were 86-88. While his secondary offerings are still in the working stages, the fact that his fastball was in the zone getting swings and misses as often as it was represented a big step forward for the 6-foot-1, 160 pounder. “He’s a young kid and sometimes he wants to overthrow, and when he overthrows he gets rotational and he gets on the side of the ball,” Caceres said. “We’ve been trying to get his mechanics top to bottom more so he can finish out front with good spin on the ball. He did that today.” Diaz, who was part of the Blue Jays’ 2013-14 international signing class, made his stateside debut toward the end of last season and has struggled to find his footing this year in his first year beginning a season with a U.S.-based affiliate. He had 15 strikeouts and two walks over his first three outings, but was giving up a rate of 10.9 hits per nine innings and had a .288 batting average and .802 OPS against. In his next three outings he lowered all of those figures, but had eight walks and nine strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings. “My biggest thing has been consistently finishing pitches out front,” Diaz said. “We’ve been working on getting that down a lot.” It all came together on Tuesday finally, giving the Blue Jays an intriguing look at what the future can hold. “I was more confident because everything was going well,” Diaz said. “I was relaxed. I felt really good and threw the ball well and felt like I made the adjustments I needed to.” NEWS AND NOTES • Bluefield’s Andrew Deramo, Chris Hall and Connor Eller followed Diaz with a hitless inning of relief each to wrap up a combined two-hitter for the Blue Jays. Hall drew the most praise from scouts in the crowd of the three, using a late-biting cutter in the 87-90 mph range to induce lots weak contact in on the hands of righthanded batters. • Third baseman Javier Monzon, a Cuban defector who signed with the Blue Jays in February, hit a hard line drive home run to left field in the eighth for Bluefield. It was the first hit for Monzon since joining the team on Monday. He is the Blue Jays’ first Cuban signing since Adeiny Hechavarria in 2010. • Third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the Blue Jays’ No. 4 midseason prospect and son of the former MVP, got a day off for Bluefield after playing 13 innings the previous night. http://i.imgur.com/YLa8Knl.png http://i.imgur.com/y4ChAjG.png http://i.imgur.com/9I4V7lQ.png http://i.imgur.com/O37nhhG.png http://i.imgur.com/yMpkw5N.png http://i.imgur.com/CiBim4T.png http://i.imgur.com/kFOY3QP.png http://i.imgur.com/34h8wlO.png Kings 3 Stars of the Night 1) Yennsy Diaz: Diaz pitched 6 dominant innings giving up only 2 hits and striking out 8. 2) Max Pentecost: Pentecost went 2/4 with a double and a triple. 3) MC Gregory Contreras: Contreras went 2/3 with a triple and 2 walks. glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 When are Ramirez and McGuire making their Jays debuts?
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Yennsy Diaz, RHP, Toronto Blue Jays (Rookie Bluefield): 6 IP, 2 H, BB, 8 K. Diaz has quickly emerged as one of the premier talents Toronto scooped up in its 2014 international spending spree, generating mid-90’s velocity despite a modest frame thanks to premium arm speed and athleticism. The secondaries are what we call “developmental,” but that’s okay, because he’s in Rookie ball, so he fits right in. The change shows the most promise, and he’s managed to hold his own in the Appy despite being young for the level.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 When are Ramirez and McGuire making their Jays debuts? Well they're assigned to the Fishercats, I'd assume very shortly.

flafson Verified Member Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 You're correct they played today. Urena with a 3 hit day, including a triple. Harold Ramirez with 3 hits, including a double and a walk. Tellez with a 3 hit day. McGuire with a 3 RBI day. That team looks stacked all of a sudden.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Probably should release Colabello so Tellez can get his much deserved promotion. Buffalo really s*** the bed the last couple weeks. They were in the playoff hunt. We better get our s*** together or will end up in Vegas again. Big day for the F Cats. They will be fun to follow down the strech. They just basically added 3 of our top 5 prospects in one day.
