vilifyingforce Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I'm interested to see who comes off the 25 man after this trade... Smoak/Barney/Thole/Carerra is the bench no? Does Carerra have options? Before the extension I would have said DFA Smoak.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Before the extension I would have said DFA Smoak. Wait derp we have a 3 man bench and an 8 man pen, Teperia probably going down giving us a bench of Thole/Barney/Carerra/Upton
vilifyingforce Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I would hope it's Tepera. Would they go after Upton and put him on the bench though? Can't imagine he'd be happy with that.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Upton will be playing everyday. People can be so dumb. He'll be playing against every LHP. I think Smoak will still see some occasional DH action against righties pushing Melvin (or somebody else who needs rest) to the bench.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Assuming the return and salary considerations are reasonable, I like this deal, especially if it gets Jose to DH with more regularity.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Just reposting something I put in another thread. I hold little faith in the ability of a guy who was never even good enough to be tried as a starter in the minors... ever. 3 career starts in the minors in 7 seasons. That being said, he may have made changes this season as his walk rate has plummeted from his previously consistent 7 to 8% to a mere 2 -3 %, while bumping his K rate up from 28% to 36% even while jumping up a level, though his AAA sample size is still very small and he's probably still benefitting from seeing hitters for the first time. Craig Kimbrel never started in the minors. He's one of the best relievers of all-time.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Craig Kimbrel never started in the minors. He's one of the best relievers of all-time. He also threw 100 mph when drafted, was only in the minorsless than 2 years, put up video game numbers and was in the majors by the age of 22. Not exactly the case with Barnes.
King Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Author Posted August 2, 2016 It's time to give this guy a shot. He's posted elite numbers as a reliever at every level of the minor leagues. 26 years old, and probably better than the Tepera/Venditte/Antolin etc. spinning wheel of s*** bags we've been rotating through this year. http://i.imgur.com/4tfnNUW.png http://i.imgur.com/CrFF8MV.png He also projects by Steamer as a very good reliever right now. A+ thread King!! This dude is as elite as MiLB relievers can be. Might as well give him a look. Maybe he could become a great 3rd option for us behind Grilli and Osuna? His peripherals certainly suggest reason to buy in. Exaggeration, but there's a good chance he wouldn't be the team's worst reliever. Barnes has been free'd. Bless Shatkins for this opportunity http://emojipedia-us.s3.amazonaws.com/cache/87/60/8760eff7ea331aca8928fdd6502a3748.png But the work is not done yet. Now he must prove he belongs in the MLB.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Man, talk about a big league debut. Ok Danny, we only have like two relievers tonight and you're one of them. You'll be facing the middle of the Astros order in the 8th inning of a one run game, on the road, in a tight playoff race. Go get 'em.
