TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 He's gotta be returning soon. Are the Jays gonna grant him a substantial amount of at-bats in the hopes that he heats up again? I personally hope that the Jays take the route that the Giants took with Melky when he was eligible to return. Just one of: thanks for your time and performance but we're fine without you. Bringing him back would probably bring nothing but distraction to a group that really seems to be heating up and playing well without him. And for what it's worth, I was doubtful that he'd be able to put up 2015ish numbers again anyways. Hopefully Shapiro cuts bait.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Nothing. Let him do a full "rehab" stint than grant him an unconditional release.
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Author Posted July 4, 2016 How many games has he served this far anyhow? I know the suspension was 80 and he probably played around 15-20 so he could be back by around the end of July... Which is not that far away.
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Author Posted July 4, 2016 Edwin gets moved? god, kill me now. I know that AA was big on CC but I'm thinking Shapiro knows better.
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Author Posted July 4, 2016 Nothing. Let him do a full "rehab" stint than grant him an unconditional release. This is what I'm hoping for, but the front office sounded like they were fully behind him. It'd really piss me off if the team was fighting for the top spot meanwhile Gibbons is trying to integrate Colabello into a regular roll again.
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Release him, let him try and start a new chapter elsewhere. I just don't see the value in making room for him.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 He's dead to me, he shouldn't even be on the roster
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Author Posted July 4, 2016 Me neither. The guy let his team down and was incredibly fluky last year. I have to imagine that his teammates aren't buying his conspiracy theories either. Only problem is Smoak's basically been replacement level only putting up 0.1 WAR at a premium position. You need better performance than a 730 OPS at 1B. The Jays broadcast always raves about his defensive abilities but his defensive metrics are downright ugly too. Ideally they could pick up a useful piece to play first at the deadline but I'm kinda worried they're just awaiting the return of the shroom.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 He should be kept in AAA for depth for next season, he can't play in the playoffs so there's no point in rostering him for 2016. We have some holes next year in LF, RF, 1B, DH and Cola could cheaply fill one potentially (though I don't believe in his bat at all).
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Give him copious amounts of steroids and hope he either returns to 2015 form or gets suspended again.
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Author Posted July 4, 2016 The Smoak idea was a good one. You'd figure that moving him to the AL East would give his offensive capabilities a big boost but it really hasn't played out that way.

I must have missed the ineligibility for the playoffs thing. Is that a new clause to the punishment? Cause I remember when Melky was suspended the big debate was whether they'd let him play in the playoffs? so how could that be?

It'd really piss me off if the team was fighting for the top spot meanwhile Gibbons is trying to integrate Colabello into a regular roll again. I don't see him doing anything more than pinch hitting. You can't take away at-bats from guys who will be eligible for the playoffs. Unless its an obvious pinch hit situation. I'm banking on us adding a piece or two. An Outfielder like Josh Reddick and a power lefty arm for the bullpen. We can internally platoon with Smoak. But if a good option like that comes available you take a look at that as well.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 god, kill me now. I know that AA was big on CC but I'm thinking Shapiro knows better. What? If you wouldn't trade Edwin for Carrasco then you are a fool.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 When Bobcat asked that on PTS, Shapiro told him that Cola is in extended spring training right now, but he has got to first take care of himself (whatever that means). I dont think the Jays are interested in bringing him back but Smoak so bad though
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 What? If you wouldn't trade Edwin for Carrasco then you are a fool. I think he meant Chris Colabello
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Give him copious amounts of steroids and hope he either returns to 2015 form or gets suspended again. I agree with this.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Take fliers on guys like Arcia, Blanks, Rogers, Choi, Coats, any minor league mashers instead of god damn Colabello
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Take him to the back of the wood shed.
nmrch Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Why would he even have to think about planning for a replacement bum like Colabello? Release him and be done with it, if you put him on the 25 man Gibbons will keep giving him playing time.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Replace Goins with CC as the bench bat
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 He is bottom of barrell depth at 1B/DH when he comes back
wamco Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Give him a chance. He is cheap and passed his drug tests last year
