glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Tulo, Bautista, and Martin have played well below expectations. Same with Stroman. The pen has been hurt by injuries to Cecil and decline from Storen. The fact that they are in a WC spot right now is remarkable. Whether we can expect a real run remains to be seen. The talent is there but the performance by a few key guys that needed to play like stars has not.
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Martin playing through the neck injury cost him some production I'd say. If the Jays had a better backup he probably went on the DL and his numbers look a lot better. Well, sure. But that's not really relevant in this context.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 lol when I looked at the score I thought I saw a 1 instead of 11. In that case... I don't even know what to say haha. Man Yeah, i thought i had it in the bag. Pretty much why parlay betting is the dumb dumb of betting.

Orioles with their pitching staff... All teams have players play below expectations. Yet all teams have guys player better than expected and the Jays with Saunders, Sanchez, Barney/Carrera have had that as well.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Society doesn't allow it. It promotes weakness and vulnerabilities. When in reality humans are fragile and extremely vulnerable. I blame the Catholic Church. Everybody is offended by everything these days, you can't win.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Could you have hedged in game with the Jays/Rockies? Would have been a good idea. But i split the ticket with a friend and it was like 1-0 in the 5th....so yeah.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 The Orioles pitching staff has pitched about as expected lol Perhaps I shouldn't have grouped that all as one. Its one hell of an accomplishment to have the record they do and that rotation.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Orioles are just having a special year. People are going to have to learn to accept that soon.

Not so sure Im ready to crown them just yet. Tillman, Gausman and whatever 3 replacement level s*** ballers they throw out there aren't guaranteed to produce an AL East crown.

That staff is just blah
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Venting is a perfectly healthy practice. Its the Mr. Brightside types you gotta watch for. Ticking time bombs and you don't want to be around when they explode. As you were saying... I love that song.

All teams have players play below expectations. Yet all teams have guys player better than expected and the Jays with Saunders, Sanchez, Barney/Carrera have had that as well. That's my point. The Jays haven't been able to play well because of much of their expected star performers simply not performing, despite surprises from others (Sanchez, Carrera, Barney). A good team probably overcomes that, but the Jays have been dictionary definition of mediocre because of it. If they are still hovering around this mark in a month, then for god sakes start selling pieces off. I've seen enough 80-85 win seasons to last me a life time. I don't want to see another.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Drew Storen es un pedazo de mierda apestosa y desagradable.

They will likely add pitching as well. The offense would have to really regress to falll off. As good as guys like Machado and Trumbo have been. The likes of Jones and Hardy have yet to hit there stride.

If the offense regresses at all (and it will) then their rotation, especially their 3 through 5 starters, is going to get exposed. Even their "ace" in Tillman (who will regress) is nothing more than a #4 SP. He's not a whole lot better than Dickey IMO. There is a reason that fangraphs only has them at a 39% chance of winning the division with a 5 game lead. Could they win it? Sure, but I don't think it's a guarantee. I just don't think they are destined for a "special" season as you say.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Orioles are winning the division. Waiting for them to regress in 2012 and 2014 failed miserably so I'm not going down that road again.

An 85-88 win season has a good chance to make the playoffs with the new wildcard this year unlike years past. Jays have a pretty favourable schedule in July with a ton of home games so lets not start the "sell posts" when they are half a game out of a playoff spot.

Jays did win the division last year, Baltimore is this year's Jays.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Every team in the AL East is sucking at the moment EXCEPT the Orioles. Bah

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Dan Duquette is an amazing GM. SHould be a candidate again for GM of the year.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Every year the dude makes amazing low $$ signings. It was Cruz in 2014, Trumbo in 2016. Very underrated Should have given up Hoffman for him.

Ticking time bombs and you don't want to be around when they explode. Venting is perfectly healthy when you're holding some pent up frustration. GDTs sure have a lot of venting, though, to the point that it seems some posters just have zero perspective on the game. The GDT for the Chris Sale game looked less like venting and more like a central air flow of hysteria.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Central air flow of hysteria. How did you guess the name of my home heating and venting themed Def Leppard cover band?
CHRIS Verified Member Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 How did you guess the name of my home heating and venting themed Def Leppard cover band? Ha, I was also trying to come up with some kind of Def Leppard pun, but as usual, I was two steps behind.
