Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I don't even understand. How was that illegal at all? Only thing I can think of is he basically made contact with the fielder before the ground (or at the same time), and clearly intentionally made contact even though it was part of his slide. It's probably the correct call, but they need to change that rule.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 LOL just saw the replay.. are you kidding me f*** everything ugh we've been the most hurt by this rule, 3 or 4 auto DPs so far
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I hope they f***ing take this rule out asap. I don't care who broke his leg, what the f*** was wrong with the old rules?? The catcher rule OK I kind of get, people used to take out catchers like trains, but 99% of the slides into 2B have no where near the same force as taking out the catcher. No, I agree with the rule, players can get hurt pretty bad, but there needs to be crystal clear criteria as to what constitutes as an illegal slide. It doesn't seem to be the case right now.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Umps in shambles Not their fault, they called clean slide. Video room overturned the call
Sorrow Verified Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 After watching the Texas game today I'm surprised with the similarities between Odubel Herrera and Nomar Mazara in their setup at the plate.

jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Pitchers have gotten hit in the head by line drives in the past. Let's make it mandatory for all pitchers to wear helmets while on the bound.

It doesn't seem to be the case. What do you suggest as a change then? I think if the player makes contact with the bag by the end of his slide he's free to do whatever. So you can slide with your hand to your side making contact with the bag and you can break up the DP from the side.

The catcher rule OK I kind of get, people used to take out catchers like trains, but 99% of the slides into 2B have no where near the same force as taking out the catcher. They were dangerous? You don't think there's anything wrong with a guy sliding feet first into a fielder a few feet outside of the baseline? This rule is stupid, though. Hernandez made a lazy play and the dumb rule saved him from himself. As long as there's no intent to injure, the batter stays in the running lane and ends up on the bag, there should be nothing illegal.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Well he walked the f***ing pitcher but atleast nothing else bad happened. I hope we get that 5th run back and s*** load more.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I can see it now. Clubs will start encouraging their infielders to stand on the 1st base side of 2nd base. If they got touched in anyway by the fielder, it will be automatic out. MLB are full of f***tards

Let's make it mandatory for all pitchers to wear helmets while on the bound. Also, they should make a new rule where any time a pitcher hits a batter, he is thrown out of the game.

93 Jays Verified Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 How the f*** on gods green earth do you walk the f***ing pitcher? And how was that slide considered an illegal baseball play? WTF is wrong with whoever was looking at that and decided it was illegal. Did they get a bad ball of crack that drove them cockeyed and stupid?

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 The basic fabric of the game is being destroyed. Oh shut the f*** up. It's all doom and gloom for the entire game because of the one or two instances per week across the entire league where this happens across hundreds of innings.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Where the hell was he supposed to go though? I think if he had just avoided the fielder with his foot (and he hit him intentionally, let's not pretend he didn't), the rest would have been fine. Again I don't agree with the rule, but as written the call was probably right. I think they needed to do something, but they've just taken it way too far.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 The old rule was insane. The new one has over corrected it. There's got to be an in-between. They also need to fix intentional bean balls.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Author Posted June 17, 2016 I bet the idiots say cause Pillar hit the 2B foot it's illegal even though he stepped in front of the dang bag Middle infielders apparently don't need footwork skills around the bag anymore. What the actual f*** is happening to the game? They need to squash this rule asap before it develops longer term implications with middle infielder's skills.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I'm hoping they'll take a look at this during the offseason, preferably sooner but we all know that won't happen. The league seems to have adapted well to the path to the plate rule (ie Buster Posey rule), the same will happen with this rule, it just needs tweeking because right now it's not really accomplishing its purpose which is to eliminate dirty takeout slides, clearly the one by Pillar wasn't one. My biggest worry is that this will likely affect some playoff game this year before they make the necessary adjustments.

It's gonna be a lot different when it happens in the playoffs.
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Pillar with the takeout slide. Good call by the umps. If it was a Phillies baserunner against us you guys would have been happy with the call.

It's probably the correct call, but they need to change that rule. It's not the correct call at all Its 100% wrong based on the new rule. If the 2B steps in front of the bag....all is free game. He slid before the bag, stayed on the bag, didn't intentially hit the fielder.
