Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Ok so how many years of control do Jays have? 6 years including this one.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 He'll be considered 1st year this season, period. You still didn't answer the question. Just admit you don't know the answer then! lol

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 He'll be considered 1st year this season, period. 6 years counting 2016. E: Once again: This is why the Jays were elated to land him in the rule 5 draft. Wow. Great control! Then he has options too right?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Wow. Great control! Then he has options too right? Yes, all 3.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Yes, all 3. Wow!!! Great job by Atkins and co. To land him!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Wow!!! Great job by Atkins and co. To land him! No one listened to me, when I said the FO landed a stud. We'll see, he's an SP.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Lets Go Blue Jays!!!!!!!!!! Blue Jays Win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Osuna Matata!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Biagini was not a particularly good starter in the minors and he wasn't that young either. Twenty-five in AA last year. Turning him into a reliever seems to have been the key to unlocking his potential. Giants probably should have converted him themselves but that's neither here nor there. Now that he's doing so well, I see no reason to move him back to starting.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 I'd love to see them try both him and Osuna as SP next spring training... Same, they both have 4 pitches.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Man what a piece of hitting that single from Barney was. Betances threw practically a perfect slurve and he spoiled it.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 this was the sunset last night... http://i64.tinypic.com/5ue4o8.jpg I know I probably asked before but what time block do you watch these games? 1-4am? 2-5?

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 How about we don't s*** on the back up infielder and just enjoy it while it lasts. Small sample size is a thing. But right now Darwin Barney is helping us win games. Nobody is "s***ing" on him. He's had a great run. But the question I was answering was "when can we start buying into this as, perhaps, a new approach?" Given his extremely high babip, chances are it's not a new approach, just a simple hot streak of noise in the grand scheme of things, just like Colabello ran for about 4 months last year. I'm not saying he's trash, just that he's not the great hitter that his slash would suggest on the surface. And yes, enjoy it while it lasts.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 6 years including this one. The more precise answer would be 6 years of service time, which could turn into 7 seasons of control if he's optioned once or twice in the next 2 years, because when you opton a player to the minors he stops accruing service time until he comes back up. He can't be optioned this year since he was a rule 5 pick and has to be on the 25 man roster all year. If they wanted to option him this year, the Jays would have to offer him back to SF first and they would have to turn down taking him back, which likely wouldn't happen. But as long as he spends all year on the 25 man this year, he can be optioned next year 2017 and the following year 2018for short stints that would stall his service time and gain an extra year of control

I get frustrated when I hear talk about BABIP and how it will regress to 0.300. I previously posted a link (a year ago) where the author shows that BABIP is much higher for line drive hitters than ground ball hitters. Barney has been hitting line drives instead of seeing-eye ground balls (ground balls are more a matter of chance and infield alignment). Although this doesn't relate to Barney's case, home run hitters BABIP excludes home runs, so BABIP can't be considered to be a fair correlation for home run hitters. If one wants to correlate BABIP to batting average then BABIP should be grouped into BABIP for predominantly ground ball hitters, BABIP for line drive hitters, and adjusted BABIP for all hitters to include home runs.

Governator Community Moderator Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 I've given up hope that we'll ever see Osuna as a starter again. Yea probably, though if they decide mid season to firesale and rebuild, I could see them moving him to starter to increase his future value knowing next year would be a write off anyway.
