burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Coming off a major injury and was horrible in April as he was perhaps shaking the dust off. In May he's got a 3.84 xFIP with a 12.34 K/9 and a 3.86 BB/9. Jays only paying the MLB minimum salary, the Braves are paying the rest. Assuming the prospect we gave up was a nobody I like this deal. EDIT: He's also dominating right handed batters to the tune of a .265 wOBA. Where did you get those numbers? FG says he had a 4.30 xFIP in May with a 5 BB/9. Also a 10% GB rate lol
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Well considering how everyone else has done, can he really do much worse? Storen, Floyd, Biagini are all better than him.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Storen, Floyd, Biagini are all better than him. Its difficult to take you seriously when you use such small sample sizes
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Storen, Floyd, Biagini are all better than him. Not based on the projections for the rest of the season (well Storen is about the same). I love what Biagini is doing, but man do we need another person who can strand a f***ing runner.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 there is always only one of me, great observation GD which is one too many
baconpancakes Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 i dont understand this really, braves are paying, so were they that desperate to get a Low A lifer and to save $350,000? their bullpen aint that great, and that option that now could help us next year could have helped them out more.....

baloojayz Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Ill take it!!! wooooooooooooooooo He had an amazing year last yr, you think he just sux now ala Delabar? I believe!
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Quantity over quality. I'd much rather have twelve s***** relievers than seven good ones.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Idk I would be much more worried if his k/9 fell off a cliff
xposbrad Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Quantity over quality. I'd much rather have twelve s***** relievers than seven good ones. lol hey why not, doesn't cost money or prospects, both of which the blue jays don't have right? If they wanted to spend money they would have gotten someone good in the offseason, right now it's bottom of the barrel scraping this team is going to do.
crazy47larry Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 oh for f***'s sake there's always one of you lots of fun with numbers in this back and forth!
crazy47larry Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 great deal. trade literally nothing for a real life big leaguer. there is no way we lose this deal.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Where did you get those numbers? FG says he had a 4.30 xFIP in May with a 5 BB/9. Also a 10% GB rate lol Woops I copied down his numbers vs. righties, not his numbers in may. Regardless he hasn't been that bad in May. His GB% in May has been abysmal but he's struck out 14 per 9.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Storen, Floyd, Biagini are all better than him. You just proved his point by listing only 3 relievers on the entire team that are better than him. In other words, we just acquired what is now our 4th best reliever for nothing.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Breakout prospect 2017 None of you are King!!!
King Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 None of you are King!!! He's nothing, minor league org. reliever. Nothing to worry about losing.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 This is a very low risk move and Atlanta is eating his salary. Lets hope he has something left.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 He's nothing, minor league org. reliever. Nothing to worry about losing. You're the best! Thanks!
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 When is Grilli joining the team Tomorrow I would assume.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Grilli is really starting to pitch well. Best part about this is that our GM isn't waiting until mid summer to address an obvious need. Good trade.
Nafro Verified Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 He's nothing, minor league org. reliever. Nothing to worry about losing. Jeepers King, maybe the kids parents read these threads. That's really not a very nice way to put it, no matter how true it might be.

Still a decent gamble.

That's really not a very nice way to put it, no matter how true it might be. It is what it is man, it's hard enough to get drafted and be considered in a trade talk as a potential asset, that doesn't mean everyone is a major leaguer.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Pretty much a "free" shot in the dark. It's not like he's being blocked by better performing options (and if I never see Tepera in the big leagues again I'll be happy).
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 So why did Atlanta do this if they are eating most of his salary? Just to acquire a "B" level prospect?
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 So why did Atlanta do this if they are eating most of his salary? Just to acquire a "B" level prospect? May have bought into the increased BB/9 and velocity decline, despite him returning early from injury, and/or perhaps Grilli asked to be traded?
