Notes:

Jays:

  • In Stroshow's last start (against the Giants), he went six innings and allowed two runs while striking out five in an eventual 5-4 extra-innings loss :(
  • Stroman is 10-2 with a 2.77 ERA at home, and he has held opponents to a miniscule four home runs in 126 2/3 innings. He has beaten Tampa Bay twice this year, tossing eight solid innings in each outing. He gave up nine hits and four runs combined, besting Archer in a season-opening 5-3 victory on April 3 and then holding the Rays to three hits and a run in a 5-1 win on May 1.
  • The Blue Jays have won one season series (2014) against the Rays in the past nine years, but they have won eight of their past 14 games against Tampa Bay.

Royals:

  • Archer has had an inconsistent start to the year, but he has put up quality starts in three of his last four outings. In his last start against Seattle, Archer gave up four runs in five innings and tied a season high with four walks in a 6-5 loss to the Mariners.
  • The Rays Ace is 0-1 and allowed five runs in 11 innings in two starts against Toronto so far this year. For his career, Archer is 5-4 with a 3.26 ERA against Toronto.
  • This is the second of an eight-game, nine-day road trip for the Rays that will include a three-game stop in Detroit and a two-game stay in Miami. Their lone off-day in the stretch comes on Thursday, so yesterday's blowout was huge for the team.

I bet it would shock a lot of people that Storen has the 2nd best xFIP on the team behind Girodo.

I noticed the other day that his K/BB was quite good. Surprised me.

Does xFIP regress HR rate? You can look at his 25% HR and .415 BABIP and say that's unsustainable, but the dude has been f***ing batting practice, just grooving 91 MPH heaters right down the heart.

You won't walk many batters when you're grooving them a bunch of juicy league average fastballs.

Yes it does.

Another number which proves your point is that his Hard% is 43.2% which is 17% higher than his career average. His K/BB ratio is good but he's getting rocked.

Hale managing the next 3 games. I have a feeling he is going to be terrible.

I don't think he could be worse. I'm interested in seeing how he does.

Yea well Loup had similar numbers last year and he never figured it out.

Might be confirmation bias but in my memory watching him manage after Gibby got tossed I thought he did a bad job.

Wasn't Hale tossed almost immediately when Chavez was?

Loup getting Xfipped alright.

was at this game, thought for sure the season was over, and then I think a couple days later we traded for Tulo.

I'd be quite surprised to see him manage a BP and lineup worse than Gibby.

I think this is the most important game of the year so far. It is no longer early in the season; the Blue Jays are entering the 2nd quarter of the season.

Yesterday, the Blue Jays looked like they had been whipped before they even started playing. If they can't get their confidence back tonight then it might be a long frustrating season.

it's connected. If a pitcher is deemed to have intentionally hit a batter after warnings have been given, the pitcher and manager are both ejected.

Beautiful quick pitch, but terrible decision for an 0-2 2SM. Why does Martin always do that?
