Probably an unpopular opinion, but honestly, yeah. I thought the same thing last year with the Harper/Papelbon incident. I don't understand why assault becomes ok because it happened during a baseball game.

 

Generally assault charges are only laid if the aggrieved party asks?

 

Jose is not going to ask for assault charges against Odor

oh man, thanks for making my point! His profile means he has to be different. He want's 30 mil next year. He has to be better than the odors of the game. odor is only being praised by JB haters. But that doesn't make JB innocent. He can't do some of the things he does and expect not to feel heat over it. from other teams, fans or his own players. grab a guys leg on a double play ball early in the year. butcher a fly ball. throw to the wrong base, he cost the team 3 games early, and he wants to be respected. stop doing some of the stupid stuff.

I agree, none of it makes sense.

 

he wasn't even kicked out of the game. And he had hit 15 White sox in 3 years.

No YOU WAKE UP. It's sour grapes over losing and Andrus had everything to do with that. It's sour grapes masquerading as a concern for the integrity of the game. It's utter nonsense.

I know that the bat flip stuff is ********...but look at all the things that have happened that Jays fans have said "You have to bean him". Being Bautista polarized matters, and his interviews after angered people more. In the end this has been the most exciting week in the Jays year.

 

I'm not going to say you're wrong that a lot of Jays fans support that (I'm pretty sure it was you who mentioned the A-Rod/Howie Clark thing), but it's just not something I agree with, so I don't think I'll ever get it. I mean, I get it in the sense that "that's just how baseball is" and all that old-timey ********, but it's all so f***ing stupid. Just today, a Cardinals fan was carrying on about how Bautista got what he deserved and he knew it would happen after his stupid bat flip, and how now no one with ever do that again when they play the Rangers because I guess they're so super scary now? I just hate the complete lack of logic. A bat flip is bad. Drilling him with a fastball is good. That slide was bat. Him getting punched in the face was good. So certain types of violence are acceptable, but not all? You don't get to play whichever side suits you in any given moment.

Oh, I never thought Bautista would, but more that I wouldn't see the issue if he did.

Philosophy around these things are a little screwy in the USA. It doesn't take much, and you can justifiably shoot someone dead.

 

edit: point being, if it isn't apparent - many will see the slide as justifying the punch, and the bat flip justifying the beanball. It's the USA culture.

I don't agree with your assault stance...but I do think that player safety has to be taken more seriously! This "old school" BS has to end. I grew up with all the same stuff in baseball that these Old School guys talk about now...I changed my mind on a lot of this stuff many years ago. I just matured and realized that it was stupid. It was only recently that I learned that 900 people have died on the diamond (surprisingly more from Lightning than being hit in the head with a fastball). Take out slides, hitting batters on purpose...all of it should end.

Yeah, that's why you are all gun happy and have a higher murder rate then any other 10 countries combined on the planet. So be quiet keyboard jockey, getting shot for mouthing off because it's "go time" is what makes you the winner you are.

 

As for the suspension? Not enough, not even close. Take a hard slide and then throw a punch when the other guy has his hands down? Should been at least 15, if not 20.

IMO this is more damaging to baseball's image than anything Reyes or Chapman may have done.

 

Nolan Ryan did the same thing back in the day after a few of his famous dust-ups.

That being said, I thought odor would get 10 to 15 games due to his history or I at least hoped so
