Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Don't be fooled by era, FIP is a solid indicator of how he's pitching indicator yes, but Sanchez is an extreme case... batters can't square up
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 we dont use ERA in these parts 9K/9, 2.5 BB/9, >60% grounders That's a No. 2 SP at least Those other stats are great too...believe it or not, ERA is still a good stat and its still a pretty good judge of how good a pitcher is, and its still probably the most universally looked at stat to judge a pitcher. WHIP is still great too, and his is ridiculous. And if he maintains all those numbers throughout the season along with that 1.35 ERA and 0.80 WHIP, he'll obviously run away with the Cy Young award in what would go down as one of the best seasons ever by a pitcher. Obviously he isn't going to do that but I'm making the point that so far, he is pitching like an ace, not just a #2.

CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Damn, what happened to Pillar? 😂
93 Jays Verified Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 A nice start for Sanchez, still lots of walks though. 7Ks is great, but more whiffs would've been nice to see. It will be interesting to see the full report after the game but he really threw almost entirely fastballs. When the curve was mixed in it looked really good and no one ever hit it well. Change up disappearance is still mystery. Less whiffs would have been nice to see allowing him to go 8 or even 9 which is eventually what you want out of a no. 2

Won't happen, let's be happy with #2/3 SP output from Sanchez in his age 23 season
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Who hit a homer off Sanchez? Souza, IIRC. Oh yeah, and McCaan.

Hal Johnson Verified Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Pillar gets the weak bouncer through the hole, Goins gets the the grounder right at the 2B.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 No. Sanchez ERA going to outperform FIP, guaranteed
93 Jays Verified Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Don't be fooled by era, FIP is a solid indicator of how he's pitching I understand that but ERA is a decent indicator too, but really over the long run when it's consistently below 3. If they weren't relevevant stats, you wouldn;t have the same leaders in the category season in, season out
Hal Johnson Verified Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 You tell em Zaunie!! LOL! What's he saying? I watch on mlb.tv.

I think you are misunderstanding me. It was pointed out earlier that Sanchez so far is pitching like a #3. I disagreed as so far he clearly is pitching like an ace. He is likely to end up putting up #2/3 type numbers over the course of the 2016 season and I would be ecstatic to get that from him.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Gibbons is a genius for moving Pillar to the 8th spot. The place he should have started the season.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Ugh @ ball 1. Martin juggled that.
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 gibbons is an idiot for putting pillar in the leadoff spot. fify
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Fugly, nice Storen. He's hitting 94... Hurl was right.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 All sliders to Bogahts. Hah... just like a Bostonian!
93 Jays Verified Member Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Lol at wanting less strikeouts What's so funny? Would you rather have had stroman k more guys the other day instead of getting through 3 inning with 23 pitches, allowing him to get to Osuna? cos if you would, you should probably follow another sport. The idea is to go 8 or 9, not go 6 and strike out 12 or 13 and ANY pitcher will tell you that flat out
