It's the "song" I've been signing since last July when I was one of the few who didn't like the Tulo trade. I still expect him to rebound, but 5 more years at his age and his injury history, and you're fooling yourself if you think he'll be the guy he used to be. I thought the 3 WAR projection was fair, and still do. I just think the Jays will not get the value out of him that some are anticipating. Like i've been saying with JB and Edwin, paying for past performance is dangerous.

I still make that deal in a heartbeat. Offloading Reyes' contract was huge, at least Tulo still has a decent glove.

Why? Outside of his 2014 season....which certainly looks like an outliner, Martin is only a 105-115 wRC+ hitter

Above-average bat and elite defence. I don't see a problem with Martin

Uhhh...we only allowed 3 runs. WE ONLY HAD 3 HITS!

Our premier offense can't hit anything

ftfy

True. Still, I don't trust our pen except for Osuna and maybe Storen.

What's wrong with 3 WAR?

Nothing wrong with it. I'd consider it a success if he does that. But he's locked up until 2020. Hope I'm wrong about him, but I don't see him aging well.

It would be fair to re-evaluate his contract at the end of the season.

The pen is fine, Cecil is a rock and Chavez is very good against righties. The pitching on a whole has been good. The problem has been regression to the mean from Pillar, Goins and Collabello, we got a lot of offence from those guys last year and they've been nothing but blackholes so far. And to add to that Tulo and Martin are ice cold right now.

Smoak/Colabello have gone 2-25 with 3 walks, no extra base hits. Its not like either of them have long histories of being good hitters, Pompey who has done nothing but mash since being sent down needs to be playing ahead of these bums.

Jesus but Justin Smoak is 1-6 with 2 of those walks. Its certainly not fair to combine those two's numbers. With the way Justin Smoak hit in the spring he should have started tonight. Than Colabello hits for Saunders and Barney for Goins.

Cecil has been lights out for like 3 straight seasons...

ALCS Game 6, Wade Davis

Well that was two pitches. Basically cost the Blue Jays the game, yes, but I don't remember such a consistently garbage strikezone throughout an entire game like we saw tonight.

You should write a novel. Fiction, of course

If Smoak doesn't start the next 2 games, i'm done with Gibbons

Pillar is a really bad hitter IMO and that's been the biggest problem since he's leading off. Colabello could be decent and nobody is expecting anything from Goins.

Pillar is definitely an 8/9 hitter and nothing more. Ditto for Goins

I know, but right now he's shaky. Hopefully he snaps out of it soon because the O's are now 7-0

Goins walk rate surge last year gave me some hope, when he's drawing walks like that he's a decent player.

I don't think the pen is fine until Cecil wakes the f*** up.

clean sweep will get it back

Also if us being last and the O's being first isn't a good indication that it's too early to conclude anything idk what is

I agree, just don't like digging an early hole if we don't have to

Move EE to 1st, bring up Pompey to lead off and mix Saunders & Bautista as DH. Smoakabello just isn't working out.

amen, the defence in the outfield improves dramatically and Pompey is probably not significantly worse as a hitter than Smoak/Colabello.

He's still one of the best players when you factor in his defence at catcher. He put on a clinic blocking balls in the dirt early in the game.

This was what I wrote on July 29:

"I like Tulo, but the problem with adding him now (at the expense of the team's top prospect) is that you are paying him $100m over five years for what he did in the past, not necessarily what you can reasonably expect from him in his 30's going forward. So right off the bat that should have been a warning flag, especially since we saw Reyes erode before our eyes in a similar fashion."

Let me know when my stance has changed.

ugh Pompey hasn't proven anything at a major league level other than he can pinch run.

I don't like Cola either but damn I think are hands are pretty tied between him and Smoak platooning.

Still dumb.

Obviously the batting order needs a shakeup. Put Tulo leadoff, just try it. He'll get a lot of fastballs...or at least Saunders

Generally I would agree but Tulo already pointed out being a mental midget to batting leadoff.

I'd go

Against RHP

Saunders

Bautista

Donaldson

Encarnacion

Smoak

Martin

Tulo

Pillar

Goins

Look, you already have the prologue for your (fiction) novel done.

You want me to let you know when your stance has changed? I'm not positive but if your an author of novels you should have the capacity to tell yourself when your own opinion has changed.
