"Which I can say truthfully because when I got drafted by the Blue Jays out of Duke in 2012, I was pretty upset about it. I didn’t want to go to Canada. I didn’t know anything about Toronto. All I knew was that it wasn’t New York, where I’m from. It wasn’t Duke. It was Canada. It was a different country."

wish more players got to experience this

Stro is destined to be a yankee isn't he?

I don’t believe in stereotypes. I’m 5′ 8″. That’s short for a pitcher. But I can do everything a 6′ 6″ guy can do. And just as well. Maybe better.

stro vs syndergaard subway series will be awesome to watch!

How about NL Cy Young candidate Syndergaard vs AL Cy Young candidate Aaron Sanchez? that'd be a story

Sanchez won't be in the rotation long enough for that to happen.

Just like Votto is destined to come to Toronto...oh wait. Lots of things can happen between now and 5 years from now. Most people won't want to sign him to a 10 year $450 million contract anyways, or whatever it'll take to sign a free agent elite pitcher in 2020.

"I’ll never be the biggest guy on the field. But I’m going to go out every day and compete like I am. And Toronto will never be the biggest city. We’re not New York. We’re not Boston. We’re not Chicago."

Isn't Toronto like 3 times the size of Boston? And pretty comparable in size to Chicago as well?

Great article from Stro though

Toronto isn't close to Chicago's size. They're similar in atmosphere and building structure; Chicago is like Toronto but on steroids.

Hmm, populations are pretty close at both just over 2.6 million, and both sitting around 240 sq miles. I guess if you count the suburbs surrounding Chicago then yes, its bigger.

Edit: The reason I posted that was because I had recalled that Toronto was the 4th largest city in North America from an article I had read. It just seemed like Stro was referring to Toronto as a "smaller" city, which it definitely is not.

I know, I was half-expecting something at the end like "oh wait, we're bigger than Boston, haha Boston sucks!!!"

But I think he meant in terms of being a sports town and with the sports history. The Leafs have been around forever, but with the Jays at 40 years and the Raptors at 20 (and living off the Bills and Argos for football), the city is young when it comes to major league sports history.

That's absurd. Toronto right now has a higher population and in many objective measures its a city on the rise unlike Chicago where population and property values have stagnated. That's unlike the urban revival trend in many other US cities that are experiencing the same things Toronto is. Even Americans don't think Chicago is that great, or else they'd moving there at greater numbers. There's always subjectivity to these things but there's many reasons to believe Toronto is a more desirable place to live than Chicago.

Definitely more desirable, Chicago had 450+ murders last year

Boston is unique in that its downtown core isn't that huge, but the city itself is absolutely massive, geographically speaking. It is a sprawl all throughout and covers basically an area the size of Mississauga - Scarborough. Not sure about population and too lazy to google it, but definitely not a city I'd use as a comparison to Toronto.
