you see this in some NL games where they hit the pitcher 8th and have a better hitter up 9th

there must be some metric that makes managers do this...

No that makes sense but you usually see the usual 8 hitter batting 9th... Travis is not a usual 8 hitter. Barney is and it made sense to me yesterday

More RBIs for the top of the order is the thinking. I don't know that the science is all that sound though.

Does anybody have experience going to games alone?

I live in Vancouver so the Seattle series is the only realistic one I can make it to. This year the series lands during the week and all of my friends are too busy with school/work to go so I'm considering going bymyself not sure if it would be a good time though.

Thing is, this placement means he also gets the least ABs in the game. Smoak has a chance for more ABs which is just wrong.

and then tonight happens

Just depends. If it's a good game they are usually fun no matter what. There should be a bunch of Blue Jays fans at the games in Seattle, so I think you cold still have a great time.

No I think Blair said something along the lines that Gibby wants to have Travis turn the lineup over. I think that's why we also saw Barney hit behind Thole despite Thole being worse, Barney puts the ball in play and can turn the lineup over successfully.

Which is still stupid IMO, the best lineup you can roll with is similar to last year's lineup where you have:

Travis

Donaldson

Bautista

Encarnacion

Martin

Tulo

Saunders

Smoak/Upton

Pillar

Travis can get on and he has decent speed, prototypical leadoff guy. Then Donaldson can continue to get his atbats, and when Bautista's at the plate he's almost guaranteed that he has at least one runner on, and with Encrancion protecting him, it means he'll get lots of strikes and he's disciplined enough to lay off bad pitchers... also can run into homers like we've seen in his limited abs so far

Saunders is a better hitter than Travis and you have him hitting 7th with a worse hitter leading off. Travis is fine lower in the order. The protection stuff is mostly crap your hear from Buck and Pat. Don't put value into it.

I agree that it is probably the thinking but I have no idea what the numbers are.

I went alone for the first time during the ALDS. It's really not all that bad. No one gives a s*** about you and you don't give a s*** about anyone. Just have a good time

I've done it a few times and it can be hit or miss. You can get lucky and sit beside some cool people and it ends up feeling like you are sitting with friends other times I've sat beside duds. I think it would be fine though since there would be a ton of blue jays fans.

I went alone in Seattle last year. My brother in law lives in Vancouver so whenever my wife wants to go visit i make sure she lines it up with when Jays are in Seattle. I've got 2 boys, 5 & 3 so last year they would have been 4 & 2. I've brought the oldest before but it's really just a giant waste of money because he could care less about the game so I went by myself.

Bought the cheapest ticket on stubhub or a single from the scalpers on the street and then just sat anywhere. The best strategy is to stand at the top of one of sections behind home plate. Scope out some empty seats and after a few innings with nobody sitting in them it's yours. Seattle is a great place to watch a baseball game. Great beer selection too.

I'm going there in a few weeks - you can bring whatever food you want right? Got any suggestions for something to do or bring in nearby?

Letting Betances of the hook was unbelievable. Leaving bases loaded how many times in the last couple weeks? Weird way of getting to the WS and ironic when they end up playing in the wild card and winning and then playing Texas then Boston......That would be a barn burner.....

Beat the Orioles in the Wild Card (Orioles Hangout)

Beat the Rangers in the ALDS (Odor, Bannister)

Beat the Red Sox in the ALCS (Price, Farrell)

This might be fate.

You forgot the part where we beat the Cubs in 7 in the WS. Walk off solo hr.

Where are you staying? There's nothing really around the stadium. It's just the baseball field and the football field. But you are only like 2 or 3 train stops from the main touristy area (Pike Place).

Not sure about bringing in food. I've never done it.

The Fan590 are railing on the Jays all morning lol

That might be a bit much but this road trip really did f*** up their chances. We were the favorites and now we have less than a coin flip's chance.

Exactly. Another stretch like this and it will be more likely than not we don't have a home playoff game.

Friday morning - 80-90 percent chance of home playoff game

Wednesday morning - 50-60 percent chance of home playoff game.

Monday September 12th -- there is a scenario where we only have a 30% chance then...

so given how important the next few games are there is now a very realistic scenario we our probalities are in the 30s....

There is also a scenario that play awesome the next 5 days and probability goes to 80

People are on suicide watch because we are potentially 5 days away from disaster... I hope it doesn't happen, but emotionally it feels like it is happening.

Not criticizing you but I don't understand why anyone pays attention to these odds...unless they are betting.

Its a total crap shoot at this point. The team that stays healthy and hot wins. Its that simple. Could be either of the 3. Jays are capable of being that team but I think the 3 are very equal. Unless "better" pitching on the Jays pitches better it means nothing and the same for our offense and defense on the field. How bad do they want it? Its there.

Just play em one game at time and see what happens. I like our chances.

Justin Smoak then becomes a timeless post season hero

I use to go to Jays games alone when my wife wanted to visit her sister who lived in a condo on queens quay, probably did it 5 times. This was 2008 - 2011 timeframe, the back 3 rows of 200s were damn near empty near the bases, I'd buy the cheapest 500 level ticket and sit in the 200 levels and no one ever questioned me. I always walked in with my hands full (drink/food whatever). I figured they weren't going to inconvenience me to reach in my pocket and if I could afford the food I could afford the seat lol.

Yeah the playoff odds are ********. Pretty sure KC was at like 20% chance to win the division, and something like 2% chance to win it all last year.

Or how KC had a 98% to lose against Houston in game 4 at one point.

Getting ready to get on a plane and head to Toronto to catch the Boston series! Think I may be a bit more excited then the wife
