His plate discipline isn't the same anymore.

This is news to me. What are you basing that statement on?

Actually he's swinging at less pitches than his entire tenure with the Blue Jays. His struggles aren't really related to plate discipline, it probably has more to do with his batted ball profile this season. An increase in infield flies would appear to be his biggest issue this season.

I actually look forward to the Off season. It will be interesting to see if Shatkins can unload Tulo's contract

I'd be very surprised if anyone would take it on without the team adding money or some other value.

I wouldnt be surprised. 1 out of 30 teams has to project value on that deal. It was in excess of $50M surplus just last year.

A factor in the team's favour is the very weak FA market. But 4/80 is a lot for a 32-year old you'd likely project at 2-3 wins, and who has a long injury history. And a lot of teams with money to spend have a shortstop in-house who is average or better. Maybe the Tigers or Mariners? Would Seattle add a 20M per year player?

I wouldnt look to trade Tulo though. We're not getting his calibre of player on the FA market for $20M and our interim options are very bad.

Yeah. The complete lack of anything resembling a viable in-house replacement means you can't trade him unless you have a deal lined up to bring someone else in. And they probably only jump through those hoops if they want to cut down on their long term financial commitment to accommodate a Donaldson extension or something.

BOS and BAL continue to fail to take advantage of our stumbling. Both are 5-5 over their last 10. Jays are 6-4.

(It's easy to.forget we won 4 in a row last week)

Didn't Tulo get a full no trade as part of the deal. Go back to bed AA wannabes

Yes. It kicked in after he got traded.

Trade Tulo? What you guys want to stop contending after this year or something? Or do we have some sort of all-star shortstop coming up or something?

I can see Urena pushing him by mid 2018, but that's probably a best case scenario.

I don't see the point of paying to get rid of Tulo, especially when it will also cost us fairly big bucks to replace him with someone decent. Probably better to just keep him...

soo I've been busy this whole weekend, where did all this drop Tulo s*** start? Last I checked he was good, and we don't have any good options. Why would you want to dump him?

He's an average hitter now in his 30's when a defensive decline will usually start. Some times it's better to sell early than too late. Of course the Jays will have to find a SS first, or have one included in the deal.

This won't be Shapiro's team till AAs work is gone. Shatkins will have the opportunity to build right they aren't going to try to make piece work out of AAs ruins

If there is a taker for Tulo he will be gone

Don't see his numbers as being average for a shortstop, and is elite defensively.

Average shortstop wRC+ is 96, and Tulo is at 104. So he's a bit above average offensively for his position. Defense grades as above-average, but not elite. Given his age, you'd probably project him to be about average offensively and defensively next year.

Well in that case who would we replace him with? I am ok with moving him for the right pieces.

Potentially, yeah.

I don't know. I'm not really on the "he should be dumped" train, just the "that contract makes me nervous and it would be nice to replace him with a less risky alternative" train. Just last offseason Brad Miller was acquired for a swingman, Jonathan Villar was picked up off the scrap heap, and Asdrubal Cabrera was signed for 2/18.5. If the team can find someone they project for at least 1.5 wins for minimal investment, then dumping Tulo and putting the $80M towards something else (JD extension?) makes sense.
