Sanchez to the bullpen is just AWFUL. Really? This was their plan all season?

If for some reason they think they can prevent injuries by limiting innings why didn't they skip starts? Piggy back with Hutch? Start his season in June? Anything else would be better.

Taking their best starter out of the rotation for the end of the season and playoffs is beyond dumb.

Him getting hurt early next year would be s***** for him and the Jays in 2017 but would be better long term for the Jays so they ditch this thinking that they can prevent injuries doing this.

Maybe, but he is going to be a fantastic option out of the bullpen through the stretch run. Any lead after 7 innings should be pretty safe with Sanchez and Osuna. Will be interesting to see Sanchez K spike from the bullpen with his increased arsenal.

Liariano needs to turn it around if this move is going to work or help out this team. Feldman seems to have been a improvement over Chavez in that he waited till the 12th. to give up a walk off.

Sell the remaining farm?

Shatkins added to the farm, for that it should be commended

I'm really impressed with how this worked out. Prices for buyers were apparently through the roof. We added an alright RP in Feldman, a SP in AAA with potential in Bolsinger for a player who was going to be DFAd, Upton, Benoit for Storen who was DFAd and Liriano and two solid prospects while realistically only giving up Hutch and prospects so far out that they're not really worth noting.

Not huge moves looked at independently. But as a composite, it's actually pretty impressive. Adding to prospects that become top 10 in our org is pretty cool.

So Bats is having a horrible, horrible platform year. I wonder if this actually helps the Jays sign him for less, and as a DH, when he becomes a FA. I mean, really, who's going to back the money truck up and sign him now?

Shapiro and Atkins somehow improved both the MLB roster and the farm at the same time (both modestly perhaps but still...)

Very impressive indeed

The only net cost was taking on payroll but so be it. They had room there it seems and ownership was obviously willing to pony up for another playoff run.

He's getting long in the tooth. I can see him declining rapidly after he signs his last guaranteed contract. Not just from declining skills, also declining interest.

A team will have to give up a first rounder on top of it. I could definitely see him coming back as the DH but we'll see, a good two months and the playoffs can change things.

I'd love to have Bautista back on a 1 year deal for 2017

Qualify him, let him test the market and realize no one is giving even 3-4 years now

Sign him back for 1M less than his QO (LOL kidding, sort of)

Give Edwin 3 years

Roll the dice next year. Trade one or both at the deadline if it's not working out

I love this, but no way EE doesn't get offered a 4-5 year, $100M contract. I think we have a payroll of $108M next year already? JB is realistic, but EE (IMO) is not. But there are a few guys out there who could be replacements. Not as good, but cheaper...Napoli, Beltran, Texeira, etc. They would all be a decent DH pickup, and can play some positional stuff in a pinch. And actually Cola might be an almost free DH if he can find his non-PED groove on the farm.

Napoli, right now, has an oWAR of 1.5, EE 2.5. Napoli can be had for cheap, and I (suspect) he's a good clubhouse presence (not that EE is not). Anyway, I think with a salary close to $120M if JB signs, then we use Cola or a cheaper option. At least we get the QO draft pick.

Qualifying Bautista and resigning Edwin seems like the logical choice right now. Edwin definitely deserves 3 years and it wouldn't be outrageous to do so.

I still think a NL team would be willing to take a chance on Edwin everyday at First Base. We have seen some players who should be playing DH in both leagues playing the Outfield in recent years just trying to get some offense in the lineup. That might be appealing to Edwin to play first base everyday.

People automatically assume the Red Sox will sign Edwin but with so many good position player prospects on the horizon they may opt to use the DH to rotate position players. They have tons of money on the bench and in the minor leagues as well. I just don't see that being a slam dunk. Especially if the Blue Jays offer him a competitive offer with his desire to stay here.

I just don't see the Red Sox needing to overpay Edwin.

Not gonna lie, I'm experiencing a bit of schadenfreude here. With his overall arrogant attitude and obnoxious contract posturing a few months ago, sitting at 0.6 fWAR in August of his walk year looks good on him.

150 for 6 years kind of soured me on him even if it was a negotiating tactic

I'll bet a lot will agree. Problem of course is that he's hurting the team...

Me too. The man created a distraction for no reason other than to stroke his cock in front of the media like he was a big shot about to get paid NBA money and now it's possible he crawls back to the Jays by the end of the season.

For better or worse, he's our Machado, or Ventura. The one opposing fans hate. With good reason. Great player in his prime, though.

I wish he would have blown the doors off this season and had a near career year before moving on and falling apart some place else.

Personally, I'd love to see him take a page out of Pablo Sandoval's book.....tear it up from here on out, win World Series MVP as the Jays get crowned champs, then we'll qualify him, watch someone overpay and then promptly decline while we restock the farm.

Yeah if Bautista continues to be this mediocre, is there a chance he could accept the QO and try for a bigger contract next offseason? Maybe

With his ego - I can totally see him betting on himself on a 1 year, show me contract.

I think it almost certainly will not happen, he's just too old to not take the years. Even with Bautista's ego its hard for a 36 yo to take a QO in hopes of a bigger payday in the future. Also, i think Jays fans are underestimating how much respect the market will give Bautista.

Yeah basically this. He will still get a decent contract from someone just no where near what he actually wanted.

Grilli, Barnes and Bolsinger are only #bluejays relievers available tonight.

Tulo available off bench in a pinch

Dickey starting and only Barnes, Grilli, Bolsinger availables. This will surely end well

Lol f***.

Dickey is going to just have to wear one tonight if he's not on. Probably will go 5 no matter what. I don't know when Bolsinger last pitched but my guess is he's got be ready for multiple innings as well. Barnes setup man and Grilli the closer.

That's exactly what i'm thinking. He might decide to double down and gamble on having a bounce back year like Ian Desmond.
