Ross Atkins tells @TonyMassarotti it’s “more likely than not” that Aaron Sanchez’s innings will be limited this year, but no exact number.

Limited doesn't mean moved to the pen....does it?

Could we get a starter in a trade and use a 6 man rotation?

As long as we can keep Hutch as a AAAA depth piece, great

His trade value is negligible I'm sure

Does he have another option left for next year or was this year it?

Junior Lake and his bad D and bat have been DFAd to make room for Bautista, who is back and leading off, Carrera returns back to a 4th OF role:

1. Jose Bautista ® RF

2. Josh Donaldson ® 3B

3. Edwin Encarnacion ® DH

4. Michael Saunders (L) LF

5. Troy Tulowitzki ® SS

6. Russell Martin ® C

7. Kevin Pillar ® CF

8. Justin Smoak (S) 1B

9. Devon Travis ® 2B

That lineup is sick and nasty. Hopefully we can actually keep it intact the rest of the way.

Is this the first time the whole crew has started a game together? Even dating back to last year's deadline. I honestly think it is.

Yep, first time Edwin, JB, Tulo, Saunders and Travis have been healthy simultaneously.

May I ask a question??

Why is Pillar hitting ahead of Smoak and Travis??

Is it because we do not understand the mind of John Gibbons??

Is this actually the optimal lineup because it puts better hitters in front of Jose??

Just wondering.

And Gibbons still does the lineup wrong lol.

meh, I dont mind how the lineup was constructed tonight. Other than swaping Pillar and Travis, its pretty good

This is what I was thinking but I am not smart enough to know if that's the reason or if there is any support to the theory of putting weaker hitters at 7 and 8 compared to 9.

Buh-bye Junior.

Not going to quibble about this line up. That's tough for any arm to navigate if they are swingin it. I don't mind Devo in 9 turning it over. Can't wait to see Jose back and playing for the big $$$ in the spotlight.

The best the lineup has looked in a long time. Martin finally below Tulo.

But is he better than the other SPs on the trade market...probably not

Other than Hill, Sale, and Quintana, yes he is.

Teheran, Gray, Odorizzi, Smyly, Santana, perhaps Eovaldi and Moore.

Meh, who cares? Our top 5 hitters are hitting in the first 5 spots, that's all I really care about.

I like Smyly, I wonder what it would take to get him given hes had a rough year so far.

They would want at least two of SRF, Pompey, Alford, Harris, Tellez, Greene, Urena, and Vlad Jr. It's hard to speculate much further than that.

How can you even speculate that far? I haven't read anywhere they've come out publicly with an asking price on him

I'm assuming that the Rays will want prospects and fair market value. They know a good pitcher when they see one.

Cotillo

Two sources I spoke to today believe that the Jays do not have "great interest" in Melvin Upton. There's interest, but doesn't seem strong.

Hes their back up option if they don't land the Outfielder they want. But its clear they only want him if the Padres will eat some salary than they would have no problem plugging him in. Upton has reinvented himself into tradable status but still makes to much to get a return.

Just a question for you value guys. Forgetting this season, say November and you had to pick a starter to go forward with, would you take Noah Syndergaard or Aaron Sanchez? Syndergaard seems to be getting the higher accolades, but arm trouble always seems to be just around the corner. Sanchez was pretty universally disliked until last year, but has had a really good season.

I don't have an educated opinion, just wondering what consensus would be.
