Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I like that Saunders is DH'ing tonight.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 With Smoak's struggles I wonder if we are going to see a Colabello return once he's finished his suspension in two weeks. I'd just prefer to play Cabrera more and DH Bautista I think but it wouldn't surprise me to see Cola back and playing on the big league team.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Estrada to the DL. Makes sense as he wasn't going to pitch until after the All-Star Game anyway.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Hopefully Sanchez ends up replacing him and only facing one batter I doubt Sanchez is at top of Yost's list. Will probably be Fulmer, Quintana, or another reliever like Chapman.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Yeah Timing is good for him to miss time He needed a good 2 weeks off. I fully expect Hutchison to get throated because they completely mismanaged his callup to begin with. But he deserves an opurtunity.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Could this mean that the Jays payroll is going up? vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 "The North remembers. Saunders, who was born in British Columbia and grew up dreaming of playing for the Blue Jays, is the obvious choice among Canadiens, but what's more interesting is simply by how much he's winning. Toronto's left fielder has received 98.7 percent of the Canadian vote, with none of the other four players receiving even one percent. Think about how impressive that is in today's world; you couldn't get 98.7 percent of people to agree that the sky is blue or that puppies are adorable. At this rate, Saunders may be the next prime minister." http://m.mlb.com/news/article/188322978/belt-saunders-lead-in-final-vote-ballots/

Rogers on the other hand probably wants to just keep most of it because of the lousy NHL contract.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 No reason to think the payroll goes up. Infact excellent chance it goes down with Bautista and Edwin moving on. Dickey coming off the books. They will look for cheaper replacements. Definitely don't expect them to be a major player in the free agent market either.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Apparently Saunders is leading the first update of the final vote according to the MLB twitter page Is it bad that I don't want him to make it? Sure, it's nice to see Jays in the game but it's just added risk for injury. Also this is probably negligible but I wonder if him making the all star team changes the contract he asks for in the off-season. Probably not, but whatever. I'd rather him rest up.

Not much risk, he might get 1 at bat.

I think its great news puts us an excellent position to qualify him and get a first round pick back. I don't see Shatkins offering a long term extension. And rightfully so. But plenty of teams are desperate for offence and its a weak free agent class.

Offer the All-Star OF a qualifying offer and when he walks take the pick. Plus, it's good to see the fans being interested in voting and him making it. The more interest and buzz surrounding the team the better.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 http://m.mlb.com/visualization/ It's interesting to see where he's leading in the U.S.

When Justin Morneau was up for the final vote they focused there campaign almost solely on Canada.

Well that would make more sense. Morneau is a Canadian. Story is a Texan. Story is getting Canadian votes because somehow Rockies and Jays fans decided on an alliance.

On the same note, there is no reason to think it will go down either. I don't expect a major increase, but a $10M increase wouldn't be surprising, especially with Rogers knowing the only way to make decent money on the Jays is to put a competitive team on the field. This isn't the Leafs.

If one of Bautista or EE walk, then Saunders would be a great target to fill a 1B/DH role. His future value is there, especially when you combine his declining defense and his injury concerns. Shapiro could probably have him for something like 3/40, with Saunders most likely wanting to stay a Blue Jay.
