West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Fantastic picture by the way, did you take it? The Rogers Centre has to be in one of the best locations in all of the major leagues. What other baseball stadium is basically in the middle of the downtown core (are there any)? And the Rogers Centre is within walking distance of the subway and Union Station. A couple of years ago I was starting to think that the Rogers Centre couldn't measure up to the newer retro-stadiums. However, now with the dirt infield and newer turf it is a feast for the eyes, not in the way that Camden Yards is, but more as a futuristic, engineering marvel, as if one is on the star-ship Enterprise "to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before." (in spite of it being almost 30 years old) Yeah I work in the area and just went to the bank real quick and took the photo. As for location, yeah Rogers Centre is great for a commuter, Petco in San Diego is right downtown near all the bars and restaurants, Detroit's is right downtown but it's Detroit, AT&T is in a good location and PNC Park is amazing as well. If and when the Jays ever get a new park I wonder what location they will pick, they don't have the room to buy more land and demo the old stadium. I would love for a ballpark near Dundas West station, GO runs through there, TTC, and it could have a Wrigleyville vibe if it was done right.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Why so much stress over Paredes? Travis is back soon... he's either the 25th man or not.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Pretty awesome video with Joey Bats and Cabbie. Jose can sometimes rub people the wrong way on the field because of his passion but he's always been a great guy off the field in these type of interviews.

If they build a new stadium my guess is they do it where there is a ton of land and they can build a huge entertainment district beside the stadium. You are seeing more and more teams starting to do that and it makes sense since they can gain additional revenue. Why let bars around RC get a bunch of business when they can build restaurants, hotels and parking lots and gain additional revenue without having it be subject to the revenue sharing policy.
Hipfan Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I had a dream last night where the Jays traded Stroman for Chris Sale. Maybe it's a sign of things to come? I mean if AA could land Donaldson then anything is possible, right?

If they build it up near Downsview I will be so butthurt.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Didn't see the game but I did check the box score and saw that Jimmy Paredes extended his hit streak to 4 games. Opposite field line drive?

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Grounder up the middle with two outs to keep the big inning alive. clutch hit

gbill2004 Verified Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 AA is gone son and gone are the homerun strikeout trades I'm going to miss AA, he was exciting. He went for the home run blockbuster trades. Shartkins is going to be very boring.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Why so much stress over Paredes? Travis is back soon... he's either the 25th man or not. Goins is gone bud. Barney is backupn
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Darwin Barney with a 122 wRC+ facing mostly LHP. This guy is a useful player to have. 0.4 WAR. Goins days are numbered.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Morning Ya'll Hey question and not sure why or when I missed this, but why are we only carrying 24 men on the active roster? Also when did Chavez get removed from the active roster?

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 s*** I forgot about that, Lol
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Yes but is the Writing on the wall for Carrera too? Paredes vs Carrera is this a thing? Who wins? Who you keeping? Why? Discuss! Lol
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 Build it on the lake. Definitely
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 It seems many teams are replacing their stadiums more frequently than they used to. Obvious exceptions are Cubs and Red Sox (sentimental reasons) and A's (financial). But Braves, Rangers, Marlins, others have replaced or are replacing them when the current spots are still pretty decent. I can see Rogers doing the same.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 I can see Rogers doing the same. I can't.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 If a single taxpayer dollars goes to a new stadium I will be crushed
nextyear Verified Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 I like the Rogers Centre and can't think of a better location for the fans or city of Toronto. I think in another 30 years it will be considered to be a classic stadium.

I like the stadium right downtown, do stuff in the city and catch a game is a good day. Also, the dome is useful you know your tickets are good that day and if they get grass in there I'd be quite satisfied. Though, I think the Astros stadium has a pretty awesome retractable roof setup and far superior to ours. Just don't think they'd justify the cost for that.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Think big damn it, let's put it on top of the CN tower, SkyDome part 2, maybe it can rotate also! About as much chance as a New Dome happening anytime soon! One would think!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Considering zero tax payer $ would be going to a new stadium I can't see Rogers paying over a billlion dollars for a new one. We can always dream though.
