Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 BlueJays record falls to 0-19 when allowing 4+ runs.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Hale following my advice and putting Paredes in the lineup tonight. Smart move. Expect hits people. Tabby - is that you? F'ing Tabby. I've never heard someone rave sooooo much about the bat from a guy with a career wRC+ of 81. Don't get me wrong - I like the pickup. Switch hitter with defensive versatility (even if his defense sucks)....but let's not act like he hits like Ben Zobrist...
Governator Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 BlueJays record falls to 0-19 when allowing 4+ runs. That is such a sad f***ing stat
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Biagini has the 3rd-lowest hard hit% of 177 qualified relievers at 14%. Probably means nothing after only 15 innings. I wonder if he has a low exit velo to match - visually at least, nobody seems to be making good contact off him.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Reading my player notes on Trout in fantasy and found this little gem The guy is pretty much awesome in every aspect of the game and only seems to be getting better. His .247 ISO, .375 BABIP and 75-percent contact rate are all above his career averages. One of these things is not like the other lol.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Biagini also 5th best average distance off bat.
Governator Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Biagini also 5th best average distance off bat. Well now we have something to be proud of this season.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 BlueJays record falls to 0-19 when allowing 4+ runs. Really weird stat... Pretty much means that the offense has sucked dick this season
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 2nd lowest https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_leaderboard?year=2016&abs=20&player_type=pitcher When did BS get full statcast data?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Biagini also 5th best average distance off bat. Promising stats with the caveat most (all?) of these hitters are seeing him for the first time
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I am hoping Smoak will breakout. I know its a fantasy, but it would be just wonderful, if Smoak can be next in line to carry on the Jays tradition of finding Coal and turning them into diamond hitters. If I remember correctly Smoak was a big time power prospect who just didn't pan out early. He has been amazing for 100 plate appearances, just hoping this carries forward. What a find that would be. Though I am not sure how much control is left.

Cyborg Verified Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 When did BS get full statcast data? When MLB hired Wilman.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Well there goes that. Now I dont really care. I can see the Jays signing him to an 2 year extension mid season... Smoak will go for it, the security
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I can see the Jays signing him to an 2 year extension mid season... Smoak will go for it, the security Was thinking that. Would he go for something like 2/9 with a 5M team option and 1M buyout? Gives him a raise on his current salary, and a guaranteed 10M. He's not a great option, probably like 1-2 wins in full PT, but with no 1B or DH in the fold next year it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep him around. After Edwin, the FA market at 1B is just Pearce, Napoli, Lind, and Trumbo, and Trumbo is probably playing his way to Edwin money.

Smoak is fine as a fill-in during the 4-5 year rebuild (retooling isn't an option - Jays have to take the bottom up Cubs approach). And I can see Smoak continuing to improve.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 (retooling isn't an option - Jays have to take the bottom up Cubs approach) Yikes. Not only throwing the towel in on this season but the next 4-5 after as well?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Yikes. Not only throwing the towel in on this season but the next 4-5 after as well? It's either that or .500 ball for the next 20 years
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 It's either that or .500 ball for the next 20 years Black or white, no in between.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 It's either that or .500 ball for the next 20 years ...or the team could engage competent drafting and player development personnel and compete every year like the Cardinals. Blue Jays 1992 World Series winners when the previous "rebuild" season they had was 1981. 1990 offseason was a retool and the team won around 90 games before and after. Jim's been brainwashed by years of derpy Gord Ash's beta personality and disgusting shortsighted moves, the Godfrey-Ricciardi years of Yankee payroll excuses and awful drafting and the AA-Beeston years of not delivering on big promises and thinks these are the only two options. A team DOES NOT need to tank in order to be good a few years down the road. The rare time that makes sense is when a Sidney Crosby or Tim Duncan is available. But that doesn't mean it'll work (Oilers) and the results are particularly mixed in the MLB (Nationals, Astros).

Now that MLB has changed the draft and IFA bonus pools I think its a little different now. There is a large advantage to finishing with a lower record.

There is a large advantage to finishing with a lower record. Depends by what you mean by "large advantage". Larger than it was? Yes. Still not that large compared to other sports.

But that doesn't mean it'll work (Oilers) and the results are particularly mixed in the MLB (Nationals, Astros). The cupboard is quite barren. It will take a couple of years to restock the farm and a few more years after for it to bear real fruit (Syndergaard type fruit). 4-5 years is actually a bit optimistic for the Jays to have the makings of a WS contender. And no, I haven't been brainwashed.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Depends by what you mean by "large advantage". Larger than it was? Yes. Still not that large compared to other sports. Its all relative. NBA and NHL have the star players at the top that can turn a franchise around but it takes some luck since there is a draft lottery in those leagues unlike the MLB. MLB there is still a large bust rate at the top of a draft but the worst team gets an extra almost 4 Million to spend than the 4th worst team which is a lot of talent. The difference in getting the 6th best pool to the 12th really isn't worth tanking for though.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 It's either that or .500 ball for the next 20 years No it's not.
