HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I followed the guy long before the dirt infield. He was extremely helpful in answering people's ticketing and stadium questions during last year's playoffs.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Stephen Brooks the guy who was posting all the pictures of the dirt infield progress got fired today. holy s*** didn't see that coming. I guess it makes sense Shapiro wants his own guy. Brooks was from the Beeston days and were losing out on a bunch of potential revenue which he oversaw.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Article from sportsnet... Wonder what he did lol Probably has more to do with this being the right timing to bring in a new guy. The front office probably had the switch in mind to be done as soon as the infield dirt project was completed. Sucks for him because he was probably quite proud of this project and completely blindsided.

The fake projected advertising in the batters eye and near the baselines are already too much.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Isn't it strange to fire him a week into the season? Yeah, his twitter was very fan-friendly. Very odd considering he was answering fan questions up until yesterday. It appears he was blindsided by it as well.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Isn't it strange to fire him a week into the season? Yeah, his twitter was very fan-friendly. Seems strange but this is a much more quiet time for the front office than the offseason is.

CultofShatkins Verified Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) Honestly it's 7 games. Tulo and Martin will hit, Storen will likely be better, Travis is coming back and Pillar will go back to 9th where he belongs. This is the very definition of small sample size. The only worry I have is if we go 12-24 or something stupid like that, but with this offense and the decent SP/BP we have I highly doubt this happens. As for Brooks, always remember that we are moving inexorably to that higher state of soul, mind and being to reach the Nirvana of becoming the Toronto Indians/Cleveland Blue Jays; do not fight the inevitable my brothers and sisters, embrace it and complete your mystical journey to transcendence! We don't know that, he might have been trying to be very professional until the last day. For a guy that went to Harvard and held a job like that this isn't a terrible moment for him like it would be for ordinary folks, he'll be in demand in and out of baseball. He might even have another job lined up already.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I don't really give a s*** about in game ads. I rarely even notice them. Until they actually impact the game which they won't unless they plan to turn Baseball jerseys into Nascar jerseys I'm all for it. Get more revenue. Atleast we have a Baseball guy in charge and we know the money will go back into the team. I doubt Shapiro leaves to come here without having complete control of the money being put back into the team.
Yorkshire Blue Jay Verified Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 He was very helpful and responsive regarding everything Blue Jays from tickets to roof status on twitter. I hope his replacement is similarly helpful.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Apparently he is "resigning" not being fired. Probably the same thing just makes it look better PR wise.
WONDERBAT Verified Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I don't really think this is a big shock, he was Beeston's right hand man and probably doing most of Beeston's job at the end. They probably kept him on to make sure everything was ready for this season and finish off the dirt infield project then parted ways with him. I would be pretty surprised if Brooks was caught off guard by something like this.

"The good news Stephen, is we're going to cut you a cheque today for $250,000 so you can put in your resignation and we never had this conversation."

baseballsss Verified Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 The only thing positive about if he got fired is that Gibbons will be right behind him
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 The only thing positive about if he got fired is that Gibbons will be right behind him As frustrating as Gibby's strategies can be, him getting fired would suck ass because it would mean that the last Edwin\Bautista season went down the toilet. No one should want that no matter how dumb Gibby's moves look. They won with Gibby last year. They can win with him this year.

Fire him now and get a manager who knows not to lead Pillar off and that knows how to use a bullpen and bam this teeam shouldnt have a problem making the playoffss

No gm worth his salt is going to risky disrupting his clubhouse over something that will have so little impact on win probability. Unless you want to tank the last Bautista/EE season, you don't want Gibby fired. You're just going to have to accept that.
