I can't believe that 4x the people have selected Sanchez over Hutchison. Someone wants to pick Chavez, ok I can see their point. But come on, Hutchison has at least proven he can start at the MLB level. Even when comparing Sanchez and Hutchison's SP stats last year when Sanchez was perceived to perform "ok" relative to expectations and Hutchison was perceived as a big disappointment, Hutchison still had the better stats pretty much across the board. Floyd should only be in this conversation if he earns it during the spring.

I can, because after everything you saw last year, who do you think Gibby favours? Hutch or Sanchez?

4x the people have not selected Sanchez over Hutchison as the fifth starter.

Ok I got it. So the vote is really showing that many people find the manager to be a moron.

Still...Sanchez has three hurdles to face:

1. Pitch well enough in the spring to even make the club.

2. Not be part of the front office's "development plan" keeping him in the minors.

3. Not land in the bullpen, where he pitched more effectively and he'll more likely be needed.

I'm sticking with my choice.

Chavez has proven that he can transition to the rotation in the middle of the season, which is a pretty valuable skill that we shouldn't let go to waste. I'd like to see him get 25 starts and he surely will. I'd be mildly surprised if our top 4 starters all make their first start. Floyd to the 'pen is a no-brainer for me.

If I'm the manager, it's a competition between Hutchison and Sanchez. They can both be long term pieces so let's see what we have.

And I'd like to know if I could vote for 2. I think Hutch, Chavez and Floyd act as a piggy back number 5.

No you can't. Also, the proper question is who will be the 5th starter in 2016, and the answer is "all of the above"

Good point. We will probably end up using 8+ pitchers for starts like every year. It's nice to have this kind of depth for when guys have DL stints obviously.

Floyd is going to be there i don't know why you guys are denying it

100 % with you... floyd has represented himself well. This also leaves the Jays in the best possible position.

osuna

cecil

storen

sanchez

That is one deep bullpen. AND , sanchez can be the longer guy in that group doing 2 inning bullpen stints.

Yes, great bullpen, except the list should be:

Osuna

Cecil

Storen

Chavez

Sanchez

Yes, Chavez over Sanchez on the depth chart.

The Chavez trade just keeps getting worse.

Nope. He could start 20+ games. Odds are that Sanchez sucks at starting and Floyd's elbow breaks again anyway.

If it ever reaches that point, which is a big if, I'd figure Hutchison would get the nod before Chavez.

So in order for Chavez to be worth the trade, even to get to that opportunity, you'd need to have:

1.) Sanchez resort to competitive walks

2.) Floyd self destruct

3.) Hutchison have a 2nd mental breakdown

Teams typically use 10 different starters in a season

Yeah the Chavez trade is a head scratcher imo. Everyone should want Sanchez to take a step this year, another good young starter would be a boon for the org.

Those aren't unlikely. You can add the chance that any other SP gets hurt or sucks ass or gets traded

I will set the over/under that Chavez will get 10 starts this season.

With them wanting to limit Sanchez innings (if he gives them no reason to bump him completely from the rotation) he will get some spot starts and it is extremely rare that a rotation goes a full season without some kind of injury.

I'll take the over

Chavez will get more than 10 starts. Nevermind injuries, but if Sanchez is still the same dude he was as a starter in 2015, then Chavez will take his spot pretty soon. A lot would have to go right for Chavez to remain in the pen all season.
