Floyd should be one inning reliever, Hutch needs to prove he isn't done in AAA.

Chavez and Sanchez is the actual battle in my mind.

I want Chavez to win the spot. Atleast it would justify that trade. But I also think he can be a serviceable and consistent 5th starter. I'm not comfortable with Sanchez and Drew Hutchison has not looked good in a long time. And unless he pitches really well should be starting in AAA. The other guys are just depth. Chavez just makes sense.

2015 performance as Starter

Jesse Chavez 150.1IP: (7.60 K, 2.81 BB, 1.08 HR)/9, 3.96 FIP

Aaron Sanchez 66IP: (5.73 K, 5.05 BB, 1.09 HR)/9, 5.21 FIP

Drew Hutchison 148IP: (7.78 K, 2.61 BB, 1.28 HR)/9, 4.34 FIP

Yes, one off year when he was thrown into the bullpen after an injury derailed a fairly solid start in the rotation in his age 22 season. Let's give up on Sanchez, he's obviously a bust.

That spot should be his to lose.

Does it count as one off year when you've been garbage as a starter your entire pro career?

I believe/Hope Sanchez will be a decent starter in the future. But he needs to develop another off-speed pitch and have more better command of his fastball first. So a few months in AAA will help him.

I don't believe Sanchez will ever reach a 3.5 or better walk rate as a starter regardless of a few months of AAA (The past 6 years says so). I think he's destined for the pen.

....and NO, he's not the next Delin Betances.

Delin K guys like flies at minor league levels.

Hes just looking at the ERA. Nothing to see here.

... and I didn't say he was. He's just more useful out of the pen where he limits his walk rate and induces weak contact. He just needs to be better managed and never come in to stop the damage because he isn't getting you the K. Oh yea, he probably shouldn't face left handers either. He really should just face a team full of righties in the 7th inning. That's his role lol.

There was a time where Syndergaard, Sanchez, and Nicolino were considered the "big three" prospect pitchers in baseball. Our franchise does not have the greatest track record with developing players. But he's 23 years old and most pitchers don't really come into their own until, I forget the exact age, 26 or 27, something like that...I hardly think Sanchez can be written off. He's worked his ass off all off season, his upside is huge, young pitchers tend to try to throw too hard at the expense of control...something could click and he'd be a great pitcher for years to come. You have to give that spot to him to lose, give him 5-10 starts and if it's not working, Chavez and Floyd are waiting in the wings. It's not like we don't have the offence to pick him up.

You can't increase your K rate adding 25 pounds to your body. He's the same Sanchez, with a bigger ass.

He's 23. If he improves his control, his numbers will follow.

Aaron Sanchez is just a beautiful name so far. We didn't see good results at minor or major league. He could be a great righty specialist, and that is useful in this new era of baseball.

and he pitched what 60 or 70 innings last year as a starter and his entire pro career includes another 360 innings as a starter in the minors spread over 5 years and ages 17 to 21.

Just confirming that the poll is saying "will be" and not necessarily "should be".

I think it "will be" Sanchez, with Chavez filling last year's Estrada role.

The guy was rushed through the minor league system and has been forced to make mistakes that otherwise would've been made in AA and AAA, in MLB. Not his fault.

That's exactly right. Our 5th starter SHOULD be Happ or Estrada with Price or God as our #1, but that didn't happen.
