burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) Not sure how many gamers we have out there but mlb the show 16 looks pretty good. Here is a video of some gameplay Some interesting features: -The game partnered with Inside Edge and players have new ratings every day so based on how a player is playing at that given moment is ratings will change. -Exit velocity off the bat -Speed rating of baserunners visible when you are fielding -New fielding in RTTS - 20-80 scouting scale -20 new umpires with their own K-zones (not sure if this will be fun or annoying but sounds kinda cool) -New dynasty cards. You could get a prime David Ortiz for example. Since we are Blue Jays fans some Toronto features - RC has the all dirt infield and you can play with the roof closed Go to the video at 27 Min to see gameplay at RC. - Edwin has the parrot celebration and JD has the 6 throw up. Probably a whole bunch of others I didn't get to. Definitely excited for the game, considering the last few years have felt like the exact same game. A build your own ballpark feature is the one feature I wish they would put in. Edited February 25, 2016 by burlingtonbandit
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Until EA or someone else steps in and attempts to compete with the show. They will continue to only make marginal improvements. Last years game was a complete s*** show. And most people said this year it's actually going to play like a baseball game. I don't know if its worth the 90 dollar investment though. I just think they could do so much more but they don't.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Are those uniforms actually what the D-backs will be wearing this year? Good lord. I haven't played a baseball video game in a while. Maybe The Show 06 for a short time? The last one I really got into was MVP 2005. Might be time I hop into a new one. The incremental changes won't really bother me since I've been away for so long.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 Another thing they added was being able to bring up a player's career statistics including all the saber stats. I found it extremely annoying this wasn't in the game previously. Franchise mode in general looks vastly improved which I am happy about. Hopefully they increase inflation for contracts as that bugged me in the past. The FA system looks good though.
venema20 Verified Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I really wish you could build your own ballpark and improve on it like in MVP 2005. I really do enjoy MLB the Show, but EA absolutely killed it with MVP 2005. One of the best game's I've played. Was a sad day when they stopped making baseball and nascar games.

They all have marginal improvements year to year. Even with NBA 2k vs Live, or Fifa vs PES.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 -The game partnered with Inside Edge and players have new ratings every day so based on how a player is playing at that given moment is ratings will change. This seems like a pretty fundamental change. Baseball games are usually based on a snapshot of how players were perceived at the time the game was created and the fact that some players are overrated or underrated is part of the fun of it. You can play out all kinds of scenarios based on that flawed snapshot. If the players keep evolving and adjusting to new data, it should make the game more realistic but might also take away some of the fun.

The show has been putting other EA sports games and any other sports game to shame for years....they have a 9 month development schedule and like any sports game cannot make vast changes in 1 year...Also, the show already plays fantastic, there is no need for vast changes, baseball plays like baseball. get a clue. There are also way more changes then what OP stated, educate yourself, the changes the show makes yearly is usually more then most others. EA could not make a game as good as the show. How was last year a s*** show? It was fantastic.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 ??? roster upates Maybe I just don't understand how these games work but doesn't a roster update just mean changing the uniforms? This sounds like it would be a skills update.

A lot of good custom rosters (like ZiPS projections and full minor league rosters) are available and the guys responsible keep them updated.

Well I guess it's not a big deal then but I like the idea of these video games being like little time capsules. I guess that's still true of the older ones.
AncientDiety Verified Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 #1 fanboi Don't be dissin the show mahfks Fanboy is one of the most overrused terms people sling around online. Liking something or refuting BS like Jonns post does not make one a fanboy, there are things the should could be better at, but saying last years game was a s*** show is utter nonsense. Also compared to other games the show has been ahead of the curve for years. Compare The Show to MAdden for instance or NHL where the same legacy AI issues are still around and never fixed. Madden in particular is a joke.

blueballs Verified Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 15 wasn't much change from 14, but 16 seems to have much more updates. I think I will be buying it.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) 15 wasn't much change from 14, but 16 seems to have much more updates. I think I will be buying it. 16 was the first version with the MLB licensing, 17 will also include the MLBPA licensing which means the true high resolution pictures facegen style of all the players, they will show emotion and aging. Another big one is the Historical minor leagues now included in 17, which means if you want to start a league lets say in the 80's, it will include all the minor leagues with the real players and they will also reproduced them every year after that. If you like playing the MLB (not fantasy which means a new baseball universe that you create to your liking) it adds a lot of realism. You also have the choice to play GM and Manager of Manager only (which means you need to put up with the GM AI and the trades/signing/promotion that he assigns to your team). Another big one for 17: "Smarter, more cunning AI GMs and managers, with individualized personal approaches to roster-building, scouting, and finances". Edited February 25, 2016 by JaysAllMighty
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 EA MVP Baseball for the win!

AncientDiety Verified Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 EA MVP Baseball for the win! Most overrated sports game ever, only mods made it good...the show surpassed MVP years ago, I remember getting 130 HR with Delgado on the highest difficulty in MVP in 1 season. It was fun but arcadey.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 MVP 2005 also had the greatest soundtrack I have ever heard in a video game
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 f*** the playstation and their exclusive titles, if I cant get it on PC its not a real game.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 False. MVP 05 is probably one of the best baseball video games ever. That distinction goes to baseball stars for NES. All the old-timers will know what im talking about.
Slugger Verified Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 '16 would appear to be the biggest improvement in the overall game since '08 to '09.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 '16 would appear to be the biggest improvement in the overall game since '08 to '09. I agree with this. This looks like a real step in the right direction. I would prefer to play a modded version of MVP Baseball 2005 over the piece of s*** they released last year. My one concern is they talk about how they wanted to make every player as true to life as possible. Yet none of the players tattoos are in the game I have been told. For example Brett Lawrie arms are covered in tats. In the game he has bare arms. Seems weird to leave this out.

Yeah, I'm not gonna gripe about something like that, but leaving out Jose and Edwin flex celebration is inconceivable.
AncientDiety Verified Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 False. MVP 05 is probably one of the best baseball video games ever. I never said it wasn;t I said it was overrated and it is grossly, people act like it was baseball gaming messiah,m the show is way better. High heat was as good as MVP.
