So many distractions already, not even 24 hours into spring training. Hopefully the team will be able to get to work and focus on the task at hand, otherwise this could turn in to a shitshow of a year.

They're professionals, no one will actually let this affect their play.

If it does, Stroman will snap them out of it.

Given what Bautista has said already in the media regarding his contract negotiations, he should be completely open instead of half open and tell us what his ask is. Not sure what the point is in him saying publicly that he wants to resign but wont negotiate is without telling us what his demands are. If they are reasonable than fan pressure will help his cause, otherwise its only reasonable to side with management because we can only assume his demands are unreasonable.

Well Rogers and the Jays FO certainly aren't going to win any PR awards. After such a great season its one disaster after another.

How is the Bautista situation even remotely their doing? Their big-mouthed star player went off to the media, and a hack journalist made an irresponsible tweet.

Poohead strikes again.

I'm glad Burlingtonbandit is always willing to warn us of the dangers of being a gullible fart sucker.

Really starting to miss the days I had him on ignore, holy f***. Is it really that hard to not post dumb s***?

During negotiations its probably a good idea to tell Bautista to keep it in house. Also when you call a press conference and say negotiations will not be public and hours later a number is leaked, it doesn't exactly look good no matter how you slice it.

Having a press conference this morning should never have happened.

Hey Joey Bays, you seem to have no problem talking to media about your contract and negotiations so why not just set the record straight and tell us what your ask is? Maybe its only $149m over five years?

And if Bautista declines not much they can do. Also they have to talk to the media sometimes so why would you put it off at all. No management is ever going to be completely open about contract negotiations so why would it change just because Jose can't keep his big mouth shut.

lol, I'm sure Bautista thought his comments would be appreciated by the FO when he made them. If only they had told him in advance that calling ownership out to a national audience is not advisable.

I thought Bautista was refusing interviews until Sportsnet paid for Travis's suit?

Sure there are things you can't control but the things that they could control haven't gone well either. Telling Michael Saunders the trade was just "rumours" and he shouldn't be concerned is just as bad.

Maybe it WAS just rumours, at least on the Saunders part. It's not like journalists never make s*** up.

This whole circus is Bautista's doing. If he doesn't make those comments yesterday, no one is even talking about this.

I highly doubt that because Rosenthal was in on it.

probably trying to get the fans to bully Rogers into paying what he wants.

So they should've told Saunders that they think he's worthless and they would practically give him away at this point?

"Mike, you can barely run. We tried trading you for a guy who actually has a knee, but it fell apart. We will certainly try to trade you again in the coming weeks. Sorry about the sprinkler."

The art of subtle escalation...

The TSN article is now titled: "Sources: Bautista's demand is five years, $150 million"

The TSN Video section now has an item titled: "Sources: Bautista is demanding five years, $150 million"

lol, less than 24-hours after Bautista threw ownership under the bus to the media he gets turned into a villain. Play stupid games...

In a way I hope this is true. Why? Because the only way he's getting that kind of money is if he bats .800 with 85 home runs this year and 22 WAR so he's going to be super motivated to bust his ass.

I suspect the Bruce part was legit, but it's entirely possible Rosenthal had someone else suggest to him the Saunders part and it made enough sense to assume was true. Heck, it might be true. I'm just not willing to assume blindly that it is, and that the team would lie to Saunders about it. Hell, for all we know maybe it was someone like Smoak that was going to LA (which would make some sense if Pujols is having health issues).

Yep, and Rogers will now turn the media against Jose.

This was very avoidable.
