Laika Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Maybe it WAS just rumours, at least on the Saunders part. It's not like journalists never make s*** up. There were numerous reputable reporters that independently had the same information. Have to basically buy all of it.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Lol, I just got a message when going to mlbtr that said the servers were at capacity. Never seen that before, even at trade deadlines.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I don't believe this for a second lol

youngtea Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Apparently its Jose asking for a number, his agent had nothing to do with it. He's a pretty honest guy, so I think it played out like he said it did. As I said earlier Rogers lowballed Jose and are trying to bring down his asking price. I'm guessing he wants 5 years $110-$120 million. Rogers wants to pay $100 million.

I don't want to villainize Bautista, the front office or ownership. I want them all to work as a cohesive unit to give us a productive 2016 from the team.
youngtea Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Would he admit to wanting $150 million after all the backlash hes received? No. Even if Bautista wanted that much money his agent would have told him it's too high. In the end it's his agent that does all the dealings with contracts. So I believe Bautista over Rogers on this. It all points to Rogers releasing this information and rogers wanting a home discount.

Why need an agent when he said there will be no negotiations? Its either take his offer or not.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I have no doubt Bautista wants $30/yr. He's an arrogant and confident guy. He has flaws, but undervaluaing himself isn't one of them. Ride out 2016. Hope for the best. Take the compensation.

I don't think Bautista has an agent. The initial article talked about Jose and his "financial advisors".
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Bogus contract numbers get tossed around all the time. I could see his camp asking 5/125 as a stretch but 5/150 really becomes an unreasonable figure if the camp is trying to give a non-negotiable number that gets it done. So bottom line I'm not buying the report

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 He's worth it. Pay the man. With JB's build I wouldn't count on him nearly as much to continue to be an elite HR hitter at 38 vs a guy like Cruz or Papi.

One of the reasons I'm all for this is that the numbers actually back up that he is a) ONE OF if not THE best clutch hitter in the AL and may stay healthy for at last 4 to 5 years with his INSANE training. If it was anyone else, I'd be like nope nope and more nope. But after the last 5 years and how he's trending as a late bloomer player? Pay the man the money.

Career clutch score of -4, and he's been worse in high leverage spots in 5 of his 7 years in Toronto.

All I do know is that if you put him in a room with 24 other teams they'll start at the 150Mil mark. So either 24 other teams are crazy or he's worth it. I go with option 2, -4 "clutch score", whatever that is, or not.

Also I'm pretty sure teams wouldn't start at that mark unless they wanted to end up paying Jose more then 150..
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Nice knowing you Jose! Try to win a World Series MVP on you way out plz. 150M and he's said he's not willing to even negotiate. That's pretty much saying he doesn't want to be in Toronto which would mean his rant about Rogers finances was him blowing smoke out of his ass. hope he has a good 2016.

Jose Bautista has performed worse in the clutch. Not that this matters, other than to say that him being a clutch hitter is fallacious.

Its hard to have conversations with people who pull false statements out of their ass and consider them fact.
