Well it's an absurd ask, although it's possible. No, I don't believe something is true just because Poohead reports it.

 

Rogers isn't going to leak a number that is higher, because that is just going to piss off Jose even more. Think about it...

 

I would reserve poohead for the Jeff Blairs of the world.

This is insane if true, no way is that contract even entertained by any team at his age. He better have a monster year or he could be looking at 3/60 next off-season. Imagine if he gets hurt and misses a significant chunk of the season? Whoever is his agent is more than likely throwing away 10's of millions and term by this outlandish demand. Bye Bye Jose!

Curious how different you guys think it would be if AA was still here instead? I mean he's one of AA's success stories and probably more willing to negotiate with him.

This price is absurd. It's not even close to 'upper limit' territory.

 

I think Bautista set it so high so that he can test FA. He won't get what he wants, but at least he can go straight to FA.

Poohead could just be making this s*** up. Rogers could leak an incorrect (slightly higher) number so that they can tell Jose it didn't come from them.

Right, it makes me think he's sticking it to the new management and quite honestly wants out. Either that or he actually thinks he's entitled to being reimbursed from his past 5 years of service, in which case he should look for a new agent.

5/100 isn't a lowball. It might be above his market value and above his projected value. His closest recent comparables got contracts in the 4/70 range.

 

Yes. The surplus value of his previous contract shouldn't have any effect on his next deal.

 

Offer him a contract based on the predicted value of what he'll provide moving forward, not as a "make up" for the previous deal.

If rogers loses Jose they'll be roast with this fan base. Lost 2 key players in one offseason because they wanted to be cheap.

 

Explain how the Jays could've afforded to keep Jose, Price (I'm assuming you're referring to), Edwin, Tulowitzki, Martin, Donaldson and fill the rest of the team?
