I submitted some questions for John Manuel. I asked him which of Hollon, Perdomo, Borucki or Espada was closest to Top 10. I asked him if he thinks Vlad is a 3B, and can stick there. What's his favourite sleeper. Who he sees having best bounce back year of Jansen, Pentecost, Borucki or Robson.

Yeah who would have thought when they were drafted that Pentecost would have more arm troubles than Hoffman!

Your friend/sister used to buy you a subscription every year. Are you alienating those that used to be close to you?

I was under the impression that though numbers are "king" in player evaluation, in small sample sizes even the more analytically inclined place more emphasis on scouting reports and mechanics analysis because of the lack of inference available.

Very good question.

Obviously some of the lower level guys could make a huge jump with a good season. Guadaloupe Chavez, Juan Meza, Travis Bergen, Ryan Borucki, and Angel Perdomo come to mind for guys outside of the top 10. Guys who really need to make an impact this year are little more clear and include Pentecost, Hollon, Jansen, Smith, and Davis. They're all getting a little old and while talented, they haven't performed and need to move up the ladder to remain a part of the big picture.

If for example we say a potential pop up guy is anyone off the top 10 list, then it's mostly guys who've been injured: Danny Jansen, Ryan Borucki, maybe Tom Robson.

And Jose Espada could be in that category. And maybe also someone like Rodrigo Orozco if he can maintain his offense as he moves up to higher levels of the minors.

Seconded, I'd love to read the write-ups on Greene and Vlad specifically.

There are issues around size of sample but there are also issues around quality of samples. There's really a compounding effect as players move up. The samples get bigger but the quality of competition also means you have to be more rounded as a player to find success in those samples. So it's no only that there's more data, it's also much better data.

s*** my bad, John Manuel says HanRod has a huge arm. He also picked Yennsy Diaz as his favourite sleeper, which I love as a pick.

He put us 20-22 for minor league system. So not the end of the world considering graduation of Hutch, Osuna, Sanchez, Stroman, Pillar, Travis and Pompey the past two years. Adding Tulo for prospects, makes it palatable as well.

If Pompey had a few less at-bats, where do you think we would rank? He's still a prospect for all intents and purposes, probably a top 50 one at that.

he's proven he can hit MLB pitching. he and Alford have similar tools. hence, Pompey over Alford quite easily

IMO Alford and Pompey are 1A and 1B and still very similar prospects.

thought pompey and alford were closer in age... alford is actually a year and half younger

that makes it very close, actually.... toss up between the two
