Zobrist back with Joe Maddon. This probably means SS and CF eligibility in Yahoo by the All Star break, right?

That's a steal of a contract too.

Yeah that's initially one more year than you would hope but the AAV is so much lower than I thought that it's a good deal.

So cheap omg. Great precedent for Bau/edwin.

Yup, call their agents right meow

Yeah I wouldn't be upset at all at something like 4/56 for Bautista and Encarnacion. I expect them to want more than that, and probably get it, but if that's the bar for mid-30's players looking for their last big payday, then that's a good thing.

I still think it would cost 4/80 for Bautista. Victor Martinez got in the high 60s last year as a 1B/DH. Nonetheless Zobrist signing for that much helps but its not like Bautista's market will drop a ton because of it.

i really don't expect JB and EE to sign that cheap. Closer to 4/80 than 4/56

Edit unless they have a bad season which i don't expect.

I wonder if 4/68 gets it done for Bautista and structure it similarly to Zobrist in that more money is put in the middle 2 years and less at the end plus overwriting his 2016 contract as well. Something like

2016 = 22 m (Gives him an immediate $8 million raise on his current contract)

2017 = 20 m

2018 = 16 m

2019 = 10 m Which would be when he would be full time DH/1B

Assuming they have any interest in extending him or he has in staying with the Jays.

Maybe add a vesting option for 2020 so he can retire a Blue Jay.

Bautista is not signing for 3/54 which is what you just proposed. When people are saying 4/80 and such they mean starting in 2017.
