TBJ12 Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Power is at a premium right now. I never understood why so many here thought a Zobrist contract would be comparable to a Bautista extension. I'd expect 4/80 for Bautista and 4/70ish for EE.

Yup, and that's exactly what's going to happen rather it's from us or somebody else. Zobrist signing will have no impact on these two.

It's because Zobrist left a lot of money on the table. Reports are that he had an 80 mil offer as well.

I'm not saying that report is true but it's conceivable he could have left quite a few million out there. Add in that he's a FA and Bautista would be signing an extension and that's how people thought he gets Zobrist money.

I think if Zobrist left significant money on the table we would of heard it by now. I always wondered how much sponsorship money Bautista gets from his partnerships with the likes of Booster Juice and Pizza Pizza etc.. If the team attracts a TV audience of a million/game you would think that the franchise players could make good money with these partnerships. And seeing how the Blue Jays are a national brand there would be a massive market that a lot of MLB teams don't really have.

Some people actually want to win and the other team that offered that amount may not have been as close as the Cubs are right now. The Cubs are loaded with talent and Zobrist might see his best chance with them.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Anyone else thing Castro is going to get eaten up by the yankees faithful not even half way through the year... Seems like the kind of (lazy) player that might not go over well in New York

Seems like the kind of (lazy) player that might not go over well in New York Yankees are probably kicking themselves for not getting in on that Darby Swanson action. It's going to be a long parade of stiffs before they find their next franchise shortstop. Castro is not the answer. Edited December 9, 2015 by KingKat

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Jorge Mateo Maybe but having one decent shortstop prospect doesn't guarantee squat. It would be foolish to bank on that. If there's an opportunity to put some eggs in another basket on the cheap, it behooves you to pounce on that. If the cost on Swanson was higher, I could see preferring to ride Mateo than give up assetts for another SS but Swanson was treated like a throw in.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Russ Adams SS of the Future? I was thinking of Pastornicky actually but same idea.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 The Yankees are so stupid. Why would you, again, give full time 2b duties to a replacement level player when you have far better in house options? Give Ref a real shot ffs.

The Yankees have spent a lot more time than you evaluating Refsnyder.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 The Yankees have spent a lot more time than you evaluating Refsnyder. They spent a lot more time evaluating Stephen Drew as well. How did that turn out?

Gregorius just put up a 3.1 WAR season...that's better than Tulo was last year and surpasses anything Jeter did since 2009. They've already have replaced Jeter - Castro's playing 2nd.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 If anything that just proves how little they think of Refsnyder. Refsnyder profiles like Devon Travis a bit...
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Refsnyder profiles like Devon Travis a bit... The Yankees don't trust him at all defensively, apparently. He's a bit of a tweener on the defensive spectrum -- can't pick it full time in the infield, doesn't profile as an impact bat in the outfield -- he'll probably end up a utility guy. I could see him being a late bloomer like Forsythe.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I'm happy I'm out on Ref. There's every reason to believe in his bat, but he's obviously not going to get a shot at 2B in New York. He must be brutal defensively.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 So all of a sudden organizations and their scouts can be thoroughly trusted when it comes to evaluating defense in the minors? ok. I thought we were past that.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 So all of a sudden organizations and their scouts can be thoroughly trusted when it comes to evaluating defense in the minors? ok. I thought we were past that. They've now given hundreds of PA to Stephen Drew and traded a useful pitcher for Starlin Castro just to avoid playing a young, cheap, league average hitting player in the position. The only way this makes any sense at all is if he's clearly a butcher. Like a Chris Colabello of second base.
