BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Given Stewart is an idiot, what do you think Aaron Sanchez could land us? That's an impossible question to answer given that they have like 8 valid starters and we have no idea if Stewart even likes Sanchez.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 There has to be more to this...even idiot GM's know the value of first overall selections.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Resume of the trade here https://youtu.be/F5sIXUbMgF0
Followthelight Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Given Stewart is an idiot, what do you think Aaron Sanchez could land us? Impossible to guess, Stewart is like a cornered animal, you never know how they will react.
43211234 Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Should of made Greinke the GM in his contract too. He would never of made this stupid of a trade. You are a bad culprit of "would of" I've noticed lol. Don't mean to be a grammar Nazi but I've seen you make this mistake dozens of times.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Dave Cameron actually kind of nails it: Might even be worse though

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 the Jays should work out a deal to get Shelby Miller. I wonder what Atlanta would want for him. Revere or Pillar and a prospect? *Moseby*
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Marlins beat guy Hearing that #Marlins had deal working with D-Backs: Jose Fernandez for Corbin, Swanson and 3 others -- until Zona landed Shelby Miller.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Who would have traded Stroman for Inciarte, Swanson, and Blair?
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Who would have traded Stroman for Inciarte, Swanson, and Blair? Without question.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Who would have traded Stroman for Inciarte, Swanson, and Blair? Of course. I was actually thinking the same thing a few minutes ago.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Without question. Me too. I think Stroman is more valuable than Miller too. Such a weird and stupid trade.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 So basically the Braves managed to trade the last year of Heyward for one year of Miller, Inciarte, Swanson, and Blair. Solid.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Me too. I think Stroman is more valuable than Miller too. Such a weird and stupid trade. Yeah, I wouldn't consider trading Stroman for Miller, but I wouldn't hesitate to trade him for the package Miller returned. This trade is incredibly lopsided.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 So basically the Braves managed to trade the last year of Heyward for one year of Miller, Inciarte, Swanson, and Blair. Solid. They wanted Pollock. I say they lucked into this trade more than anything.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 They wanted Pollock. I say they lucked into this trade more than anything. That's why I said 'managed' lol, like you said this is basically AZ's doing, Braves wanted Pollock from the beginning
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Holy f***, Hart instantly redeems himself for some questionable trades earlier....my gawd this is ridiculous
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I wonder if Freeman is next ...
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 You don't think analytics-inclined people look at these things? Lmfao I never said that...
flafson Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Can't believe they gave away their number 1 and 2 prospects for Shelby Miller.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Another question I have is why did they even draft Dansby Swanson in the first place if they place such little value on him? Maybe Miller is a good number 2 starter for 3 years and ~20 mil or whatever. I won't discount that possibility. However, surely a highly thought of number 1 pick is worth somewhere in that ballpark or even more.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Nick Piecoro @nickpiecoro 1m1 minute ago Hearing from multiple sources Ender Inciarte, Aaron Blair and Dansby Swanson are involved in the Shelby Miller deal. Lolwut Hahaha..

However, surely a highly thought of number 1 pick is worth somewhere in that ballpark or even more. I think they probably just don't have a good understanding of what his value is. Moncada got $63M on the open market and he was basically a talent equivalent for a #1 draft pick. That should say a lot.

It's stupid enough that they wanted to deal the Swanson package over Pollock (rumours pointed to a straight swap of Miller and Pollock)
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Why do you think I didn't notice that he added two fastball variants? It had no noticeable affect on his xFIP or SIERA and his xFIP- was actually worse than average. So now you tell me how he "improved". and that right there is exactly my point, you refer to improvement as a broad statistic such as xFIP, or SIERA, increasing as the only way to measure it. You my friend are "close minded", if the kid adds 2 new pitches and one of them in his first year using it is 3rd best in the MLB among starters, that is the very definition of improvement. If you can't understand this then I give up.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I like Miller, I think he could become a good #2 pitcher... obviously the Arrieta comparison is wishful thinking. That being said this is clearly a terrible trade for the DBacks, not defending that one.
