Swervin81 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I think the mask is coming off this new regime. No wonder Alex headed for the hills. The payroll parameters are too constraining even if the revenues increased. How is $140M too constraining. Like, how? That's definitely a top 10 payroll. Especially with a weak ass dollar.
tpurewal97 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Doesn't look like the Jays will make any significant moves , they seem pretty content with there roster as of now. So far OUT - > Price , Buehrle , Lowe* , Hawkins , Navarro , Hendricks , Pennington , IN - > Happ , Chavez
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 He would have fit in beautifully with our team and i foolishly thought he was a realistic option before the off-season started. He definitely was a realistic option. We'll see how much he got. But if its 3/45 or less, we should have been in.

Effit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 No doubt this offseason has been pretty underwhelming so far. Zzzzz Hopefully the 2016 results will be a tad more exciting.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Iwakuma gone to the Dodgers per Jim Bowden. This is a guy I would have liked, but he was never going to choose the Jays over the Dodgers.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Yep I was on the Kuma bandwagon, but I never expected him to want to come to Toronto.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 #Rogers when you had a team that scored almost 900 runs and is set up to be just as good next year, there isn't really much to do. We need to sign a couple bullpen arms. I would love to see Dickey traded as part of a package for an upgrade in the rotation, but that isn't going to happen. It would be nice to see Jose or EE extended. I think that still has an outside shot of happening.

So far been underwhelming.

In my opinion, when you have such a crazy elite offense and your pitching is lacking circumstances should be made by ownership to take advantage of this opportunity and really go for it. Doesn't mean spending $200 million or anything like that , but a decent bump would have been great with regards to accomplishing better moves. With regards to Bautista and Encarnacion, it's hard to imagine them being here past next year, (especially more so if we struggle) when you look at our payroll in 2017.

Exactly, instead they will most likely waste a championship caliber team because they didn't want to go all the way. Frustrating. Expect Happ and estrada to regress and Stroman to have ups and downs this year,

BeastMode Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Yep I was on the Kuma bandwagon, but I never expected him to want to come to Toronto. It's almost always about money. I am sure if we had the budget room to pay him extra, he'd probably play here. But yeah, all money being equal most players will choose their home country to play in.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Kuma to the Dodgers. So much better than giving Greinke 206M.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Kuma to the Dodgers. So much better than giving Greinke 206M. Nuh-uh, spending 34 million per year on a 32 year old STUD is a way better use of money. Who is Iwakuma anyways?

Payroll is up almost 100% from 2011 and still people whine. The lesson to Rogers here should be: why have a competitive payroll?
BeastMode Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Payroll is up almost 100% from 2011 and still people whine. The lesson to Rogers here should be: why have a competitive payroll? Rogers has been a joke since they have owned the team when it comes to payroll until the past few years. They figured out that spending money to make money works out pretty well. BTW, I never said $140 million wasn't enough to win with, but with our market potential it could easily be higher no question.
Hipfan Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 When has "going for it" ever worked out? Name a team that had a crazy offseason and won the WS the following season. 2009 Yankees, off the top of my head.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 You're right, from the Blue Jays perspective he wasn't worth 7/217 million (hence why they didn't offer it)... what are you even complaining about? You're upset that they didnt offer him a contract he would have rejected, that seems smart to me How is that smart? We should bid on any FA the team wants/needs. Period. If that player gets too pricey, we pull out. Who gives a f*** if the FO gets a little egg of their collective face for being turned down. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The lesson is, make sure you have the management team in place to efficiently use your payroll and I believe they have learned that and is why Shapiro is here now.

Smart in the sense that they use their resources for other priorities, I didn't mean anything about possible embarrassment. Taking the time to evaluate a player, come up with some numbers and make offers when you know you won't sign them is a very poor use of time.
