BTS Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Russell can't play all 162, so he needs some days off. Making those days off be Dickey days just makes perfect sense. If Dickey throws 32 games, let Thole catch 25 of them, let Russ catch one every once in a while, so he stays on top of it and come playoff time, we don't need to risk throwing out Thole in a game of that magnitude. It's never that tidy though. If Dickey is facing a LHP, for example, you don't want Thole in.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Did you know we have an ignore feature on this site? I've had him ignored for like a year and I never have to read the stupid s*** he constantly posts unless a dickfart such as yourself decides to quote him for all to see. Same goes for your dickcheese comments.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 No surprise! Dickey/Thole PACKAGE DEAL. I know the winner... shhhhh... Hnnnngggggggggggggg

Or Kratz against a rhp, I believe the sample size doesn't matter. In looking back at either players stats. The Jays offense makes up for it, regardless.

I don't like to ignore people just because I think they are kind of dumb and I disagree with them a lot. I will ignore anyone who is dumb and exceedingly indignant, though. I mean, I thought Greenwood was dumb and I disagreed with him a lot for like, years. Now he's the board MVP.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 almost everyone knew this was going to happen when they let him go. it's kind of a no brainer.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 You're a mod. Can I please get a legitimate explanation of what the problem with my thread was? You're green, with one eye and not proper, bitch.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 You're a mod. Can I please get a legitimate explanation of what the problem with my thread was? I don't really think he's the mod to ask.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 What? Can you please be serious. I honestly don't understand what the problem was. I'm actually a person here, and I just want to know what was wrong. Says the green one-eyed Alien, lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I'm not really sure how I can better convey to you that I just want to know what the problem was. Why are you speaking to me this way? You're an Alien, brah? Sorry, our society is racist, but we're trying to get through it, and making huge strides, but Kang? He's on the outside looking in.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Alright, I'm not messing around here. I am a human being. I've been going through some pretty serious problems with depression recently, and as such, I have some pretty significant ups and downs. Right now, I'm feeling pretty down because all I wanted to do was start a discussion about something baseball/sports related, and you and others have just resorted to making fun of me for it, and deleting my thread. I just want to know what the problem with it was. Did I break some rules, or am I being bullied? What is it? I don't get it. I just want to be part of this community... It was dumn, that's why. *E-Hugs*
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Your thread was fine. It was a narrow topic that was better suited for Aroubd Baseball, but it didn't break any rules. Unfortunately the tone for the thread was set by the first few responses, and the mods deleted it. s*** happens.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Specifically, what was dumb about it? All it did was try to start a conversation about the thinking behind ******** in sports. Objectively, that is not dumb. I'm not f***ing around here. I want to know what rules I broke. Yes you are, lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I am what? I didn't make any statements about myself in that comment. Fine.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I'm OK with Thole as our backup going into the season. Having an upgrade would obviously be better but I don't think it's a big deal if he ain't replaced. Personally I would like a knuckleball catcher as our backup, I didn't like Martin catching Dickey last season.

Personally I would like a knuckleball catcher as our backup, I didn't like Martin catching Dickey last season. I'd still like the Jays to push for Tyler Flowers. Its great Thole can catch Dickey but if anything happened to Martin its a little redonk placing expectations that he can catch the entire staff. Flowers has shown he is a capable starting catcher and was the 2nd-3rd best pitch framer in the league last year. He isn't a league average hitter by any means, never has been, but this team offense can handle another Goins-like bat in the lineup. Thole can't even say he is as good or better hitter than Goins lol.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Okay, thank you. That is an answer that actually helps me to understand the unwritten rules, and what is expected from a thread. I actually considered bringing it up in 'Around Baseball', but I figured I would make a thread so that people could discuss the topic, and also post in it to have a laugh whenever an athlete/executive says something bullshitty throughout the year. I guess people don't want that here. C'est la vie. Thank you for giving an answer that was actually useful. Don't worry about it. I didn't even see the thread but I'm sure I can figure out what happened. Happens all the time on this board
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Let's focus on the big picture. Thole is fine as a backup. Add some AAA depth and a few arms in the pen and were ready to rock and roll.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 74 days, 17 hours, 53 minutes until spring training. I miss baseball
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Thole was going to be with the Jays for sure. The not offering arbitration was just a formality to save $. There would be worse things than Thole catching Dickey every 5th day and saving Martin from having to do it. IT would still be nice to have a viable option sitting in AAA to play if there was an injury to Martin however.

That may bring 5 mill + judging by what Navarro just got. Flowers hits more like J.P Arencibia, than Goins, .200 with a bunch of HR/SO. he was Chris Sales personal catcher so he must call/catch a good game. If Flowers is going to cost that much, you can get a relief pitcher for that much $$.
puphood Verified Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Thole is ....1) one of the worst nightmares at bat ....2) a waste of a seat on the roster .....3) and increases Dickeys cost to the team..... 4) useless as a backup catcher The only up side is it makes Dickey more palatable in a trade if you can throw in Thole........

Simply being a average (or better) defensively makes him useful as a backup catcher. He's going to get like 150 at-bats, so you throw a little BABIP luck in there and he hits .280 or something. It won't have a huge impact either way and I'm pretty confident in his defensive abilities.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 And if Martin injures himself and is out for an extended period of time? No matter who the backup catcher is going to be, the Jays would have a massive downgrade if Martin got hurt.
