Sooo... when is it appropriate for AA to announce his deal with the Marlins?

AA operating under a $50M budget will be an absolute s*** show.

That would never happen. Their payroll was over $100M in 2012, and Loria looks like he wants to contend again. This is pretty typical of the Loria rollercoaster.

The Marlins only have $38M in salary commitments next year, and $11M of that is Martin Prado, who they could dump if they eat some salary. They could conceivably have $50-60M to blow in FA this offseason, maybe more if Loria has been pinching pennies over the last two cheap-out seasons.

Another interesting tie is that Beeston and Loria know each other very well, and Beeston recommending AA to his old buddy might go a long way.

I'm sure it will happen, just maybe not in the next couple of years.

Is it bad that I didn't really care all that much when it was announced that he was gone, and that I care even less now?

No, why would it be, this is exciting conjecture though!

Especially after the shitshow last winter by Ed Rogers, the writing was on the wall for both Beeston and AA, as the Hurl has mentioned in the past, AA wanted Beeston's job and was grooming Tinnish to be GM all along. Once that rug was pulled, the Loria/Beeston and AA circle jerk commenced. It all makes sense. Haha!!

I was more surprised than upset, I didn't think there was any way that AA would walk away from the team he built. But now, reading the tea leaves, this scenario makes a lot of sense to me. This is the perfect opportunity for AA to get a big fat payday.

Contrived is a great word for it. I'm going to guess Nov 12.

He has to wait until the body is a little cold at least before announcing.

Politicians have nothing on the grin f***ing double speak and subterfuge surrounding this departure that all have had to do......to make it look less contrived for the fans (the ones that aren't very bright).

sorting through the tea leaves and reading the entrails of all the non speak...we are finally seeing the pre-cooked nature of all this emerge.

And in AA's press conference when he said that he was a baseball guy and wouldn't want a job dealing with operations and business aspects was all a cover to hide that he was hurt being passed up in the decision.

Too bad the Maple Leafs aren't giving him a great distraction lol

I really don't think he left over Money, he wanted the President job.

More specifically, he didn't want Mark Shapiro as his boss. I doubt he would have cared about the President title if Rogers brought in someone with a business background.

How does this even make sense? According to you guys it is when he traded his prospects that were his worse moves. From what I saw he is one of the hardest working and creative GMs I've ever seen. Couple that with the clear ability he showed in building a farm system and it is very possible that AA would be MORE suited to have a low budget.

AA has pretty much said himself he has no interest in a president's job. Has said more than once he does not enjoy any of those types of tasks and really just enjoys the baseball side of things. Not something he would lie about and if he can make 10+ million as a GM, I doubt he'd have any motivation to go be a president.

Maybe half that, maybe.

It's a bit of semantics, really. Dan Jennings was initially the Marlins GM this year. After they fired their manager, he became manager as well. On Oct 6, he was replaced as field manager. On Oct 29, he was fired as General Manager. On Oct 29, Anthopoulos officially turned down an extension from the Blue Jays, citing "the wrong fit." Regardless of title, there is an opening in the Marlins front office, and a connection between Anthopoulos and Loria (Expos).

It all adds up. You shall be called Dr. Ninja from this day forward.

Whoever ran his drafts seems to have done good work, and the team had a healthy prospect pipeline, but for the majority of his tenure he was ineffective at assembling a cohesive 25-man roster with capable backups in place to round out the 40-man. Buying wins efficiently is not a demonstrated skill of his, and that's critical if you're going to win on a payroll less than $150M.

If only they didn't trade half the pieces from the Jays.

More to the point, nobody is better with a smaller payroll. If you can succeed with a small payroll, that's great, but you can always do more with a bigger payroll and the same methodology.

According to Toronto media, Morosi, etc, he was offered 5 yrs 10 million with Toronto.

Which is very solid, but I bet he can double that. Of course, if he does sign with the Marlins, they won't disclose the terms of the deal.

Funny. But still AA has been saying this for a long time, not just recently. He used strong language in the past saying how he really dislikes dealing with those types of things, and his interest is in baseball. You can decide to just plain not believe that if you want I guess.

Is that their normal practice, not disclosing executive contracts?
