If the team's value grew 500-600k in 2 years and "lost money" last year then I'm sure they made tons of money this year. That's really the closest I've heard to how much advertising revenue they have received. With cross promotion of their own shows you really can't get a true value for the TV ads anyway since other programs get more viewers which is a result of the Blue Jays.

Then, there is also the carriage fees Sportsnet can charge. Those revenues would be more of a factor for the coming year(s) but then that gets back to my entire point of the whole thing which is that the Blue Jays should be putting more money into the team. If they are getting additional revenue of close to 100-200 Million next year then why keep payroll the same or lower it?

The idea is to spend a much as you have to but no more than that. That's what every company seeks to do. Shapiro didn't get hired by telling Rogers he would provide them with less value for their money.

Shapiro should easily be able to make an extra $50 million per season by using current technology for ticket sales, sponsorship etc.. So they obviously wouldn't be getting less money.

Yep, dynamic pricing would do the trick.

EASILY make an extra 50 MILLION by enacting current technologies.

Shapiro, a two-time baseball executive of the year, will be charged with modernizing the Jays’ business operations. The team generated $20 million worth of corporate sponsorship revenue during the 2015 season, less than the $21 million generated by Toronto FC, a source familiar with the matter told TSN.

The Jays are also one of few Major League Baseball teams that don’t employ dynamic ticket pricing - a tactic where teams charge more for tickets for games against high-profile teams such as the Yankees and Red Sox than they do for other games.

The Jays have probably left $40 million to $60 million on the table,” the team source said.

You guys underestimate how bad Beeston was at his job...

AA is in FLA? I guess it makes sense to hand out resumes to other GMs for a job.

He's there to receive his Executive of the Year award..

holy f***

funny how bad Beeston is eh? If I can make 10K selling blue jays tickets part time you know your ticket technology is out of date.

Yeah I don't think that was what NJH was alluding to when he posted that...

Well in his defense, he's not pulling that outrageous figure out of his ass. That's in Westhead's article.

This talk about AA making the Jays money over this run is ludicrous. How about the money lost over the previous 5 years sucking? Or in the future when they suck again because he traded away prospects. Need to consider a long-term time frame not a single season, and need to consider what the performance of the average GM because the team is going to make a certain amount of money no matter what. What value over the long-term did he create that others would've have? One good run can be forgotten quickly. They need some sort of performance above replacement for GM's and execs, value created above replacement (VCAR)?

How come Ang is banned? Did he get deported?

Just a one day ban for ignoring my warning about making innapropriate jokes about domestic abuse.

The legacy of AA...Perry Minnisian!

http://jaysjournal.com/2015/11/22/toronto-blue-jays-scouting-department-alex-anthopoulos-legacy-mlb-news/

Time to cut that 21 person major league scouting team (which in 2012 they actually stated they moved much of the amateur resources to as well) down to about 3.

Scouts are important to any org. I'm not sure what you're trying to get at?

Yes scouts are important. Amateur and International ones are to be precise.. Major League scouts not so much.

They still have purpose. Seeing instinctual plays, seeing if the player is hurt, seeing if a player has improved a pitch. Players are always evolving and you need some eyes with the data to see that. Some of you guys might not believe that having good players around you make you better, I do. Seeing a Russell Martin and Josh Donaldson put on a pickoff play in the right situation is something the advanced stats don't see right now.

Yeah but who cares? You think Martin got his contract because of the pickoff play? That's just details and just a very small part of the value these players bring to the table. In any case, no one is arguing against getting rid of MLB scouts altogether. The argument is merely that they are not important.
