Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Who didn't see it coming. Rogers hand picked their penny pincher who wants to bring in his own guys. Fk Rogers. AA will now go ninja for someone else, he's the one guy you always believed will pull off an incredible move.
fireballW Verified Member Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 If, and this is of course complete speculation, but if AA walked because Shapiro wants to be heavily involved in the construction of the team doesn't that severely deter any of the established big name GMs from wanting to come here now? Yes probably. Really I'd rather have AA than Shapiro. It's the GM who really makes the on field stuff happen. Well hopefully we hire somebody really good. We will see. I really think AA was great and was only going to get better.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Good for AA. This is a retarded move for the Jays. Oh well... I hope Shapiro is half as smart as he thinks he is.
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Only the Jays could let the executive of the year walk because cigar boy had to leave.

AA will now go ninja for someone else, he's the one guy you always believed will pull off an incredible move. Even I was stunned at his ability to swing the Donaldson and Tulo trades within the same season, but what other incredible moves has he made? You also have the consecutive Marlins and Dickey trades, both of which people are realizing were/are awful. He did a good job restocking the farm and bringing in talent for budget prices, but how is that not something anyone can do? I mean, kudos to AA for his 2015 squad, but I think some of you might be letting the 22 Years narrative create a halo around the guy.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Let's be absolutely clear on one thing. Shapiro was promised full autonomy when Rogers signed him. The problem here was that the retards that own our team didn't recognize what they had in Anthopoulos and it was always going to come to this. Not that anyone predicted it, but maybe we should have.
BlueJays Verified Member Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 This could be bad news for Gibbons and I like it.

AA will now go ninja for someone else, he's the one guy you always believed will pull off an incredible move. He was just as likely to pull a terrible one as an incredible one and he also had two off-seasons where he was nearly completely asleep at the switch (2013-2014, 2011-2012). Don't get me wrong, he had his strengths and having him work under better guidance might have been the best of both worlds but I guess he's a bigger prima donna than he let on. Well if that's the case, I don't see what the Jays could have done. Giving him more authority would have been disastrous and this situation couldn't be allowed to linger any more.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Also, before any more information comes out, let's all remember Anthopolous turned the contract offer down. Rogers can't be expected to just make it rain money on the guy, or promise him things the new president they just hired won't give him. Both sides likely knew this was coming.

He was a top 5 GM for drafting and that was without particularly high picks. Don't pretend that this is a common skill that you can find anywhere. Sure Tinnish and Parker did a great job, but who hired them? This all comes from the top.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Shapiro is an idiot. If he was any smart at all he would have made the Carrasco trade to the Jays. But honestly, Carrasco seems primed to be a stud and Shapiro was shopping him as if he didn't even know. We really trust this guy more than AA? Sure Shapiro might make a few less mistakes but he also hits less home runs. Dumn dumn calling Shapiro dumn. Haha

Rogers can't be expected to just make it rain money on the guy, or promise him things the new president they just hired won't give him. Both sides likely knew this was coming. This was the second time that the Jays were trying to get the new President to work with a GM already in place. That's a tough trick to pull off and it's how the Jays ended up stuck with Beeston in the first place. If Shapiro was willing to compromise and keep AA around and not bring in his own guy and AA still wanted to take his toys and go home, what more was there to do?
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Can Shapiro be President & GM?
fireballW Verified Member Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Dumn dumn calling Shapiro dumn. Haha You're dumb dumb. I'm rubber you're glue
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Rogers was willing to tamper in order to get Dan Duquette last season. They clearly wanted AA gone a long time ago. I'm not sure what to expect from Shapiro until more moves are made but I could see Tinnish or LaCava being promoted with Shapiro still having final say on direction and moves. I said everything I wanted to say on AA in the previous thread but yeah, not hurt by this move at all. Thanks AA for ending the drought but it's time for someone else to extend the window and create a more long term sustainable product.

Rogers clearly didn't recognize that team had a solid base and was set to compete for years before hiring Shapiro. Now they have to live with that mistake. It's not Mark Shapiro's fault. He should have been hired with the understanding that he works with Anthopoulos or he shouldn't have been hired. End of story.

Bringing in Duquette to be Team President did not imply they wanted AA gone. I mean SOMEONE had to replace Beeston. You're reaching.
fireballW Verified Member Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Surprised obviously We may here some stories now... The annoying part about all this might be that AA is so tight lipped we might not ever get a full, true picture of what happened.

You're reaching. Trying to bring in a rival GM to take over as president wasn't fishy to you? Do you honestly think AA would have been fine with that? Hell, Shapiro hasn't been a GM for years and AA bounced.
