Pretty long list though and a good season to need to sign one or two pitchers.

Who from this list should we give 15 mil or so to. I think we need 2!

I'd go for Zimmermann and shark if you can get a discount...might be a nervous off season as waiting it out could be the best option to find some deals.

Tier 1

David Price

Zack Greinke

Tier 2

Jordan Zimmermann

Johnny Cueto

John Lackey

Hisashi Iwakuma

Tier 3

Scott Kazmir

Ian Kennedy

Wei-Yin Chen

Mike Leake

Jeff Samardzija

Mat Latos

Tier 4

Brett Anderson

Bartolo Colon

JA Happ

Marco Estrada

Yovani Gallardo

Tier 5

Rich Hill

Joe Blanton

Kyle Lohse

Doug Fister

Colby Lewis

Tim Lincecum

Trevor Cahill

Brett Anderson would be a decent target. Injury history probably makes him reasonable in terms of $$. Get's a ton of ground balls which is perfect for our park/defense. PD stats were down this year though....

There are so many relatively interchangeable pitchers on the market that it's hard to single any out as particularly great fits. I don't think the team's infield defense is markedly better than their outfield defense and ground ball pitchers don't derive that much extra value from pitching in homer-friendly parks, so I don't think Anderson stands out as a fit. He's a decent pitcher nonetheless.

I'd like to land one of the young-ish mid-rotation guys and maybe take a shot at someone like Lackey or Kuma on a shorter term.

Has anyone looked into whether or not the turf has an effect on the likelihood that a ground ball becomes an out in RC? If so, that would make GB pitchers more appealing than they would already be.

Maybe AA will try signing Latos, wasn't he interested in him before the Cincy trade?

Would love to take a flyer on Latos. Not sure what the f*** happened to him but on a cheap contract it wouldn't be a terrible investment. Some good middle of the rotation guys out there.

Ball slows down can only help the infielders who play everyday on turf. But grass is coming in 2018 wooooo!

I certainly hope that the Blue Jays will get Marco Estrada back. I also hope they will get David Price (although it will cost them). I assume that Dickey will be back.

I liked how J.A. Happ pitched while he was in Toronto and I would be happy to see him back again. His numbers for this year (2015) with Seattle and Pittsburgh were:

7.90 K/9, 2.35 BB/9, 1.27 WHIP, 0.84 HR/9, 3.61 ERA - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=7410&position=P

this compares favourably with Marco Estrada's stats for 2015 - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1118&position=P. However, I would give the edge to Estrada based on WHIP and ERA

6.51 K/9, 2.73 BB/9, 1.04 WHIP, 1.19 HR/9, 3.13 ERA

I could see a pitching rotation of:

Price

Stroman

Estrada

Happ

Dickey (maybe)

What about Hutch?

What about Hutch?

I don't know what is wrong with Hutchison, his numbers aren't that bad, but his LOB% (left on base %) is terrible at 64.5% - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=10732&position=P which really elevates his ERA. Happ's LOB% is 75.4% and Estrada's is 79.2%. If Hutchison can work things out then he has the potential to consistently pitch good games.

Of the non-Zimmermann, Price, Greinke, Cuetos, I'd be satisfied with some combo of Shark, Fister, Iwakuma, Kazmir, and Lackey. Obviously varying contract lengths, but I think two of any of those guys could make for a more than reasonable Blue Jay rotation.

I also haven't given up on Hutch by any means. He really needs to work back some of my confidence though.

The idea of Zimmerman is very interesting to me. He could be an effective #2/3 pitcher for the next few years and he would probably not fetch beyond a 5 year term. Could be the smart play to replace Price and give the rotation a very good 1-2 punch for the foreseeable future with Stroman and Zimmerman.

Shark and Lackey for me. Maybe also a flier on Rich Hill.

Lackey, the guy we absolutely hated only a couple seasons ago.

A lot of people bringing up Fister lately. He looked finished this year. Fastball sitting mid-80s and like 5% swinging strike rate. Would not sign.

Am I the only one who thinks Iwakuma is a good fit?

No way Seattle let's him leave. There's a reason he was not traded at the deadline. Ownership wants him back. They will get a deal done.

Eh, some of those guys are risky. I don't think Zimm gets as much as those guys either. Zimm, Shark, Kuma, Chen, Kennedy, Leake, and Hill are all interesting.

Agreed. I might offer him a league minimum and give him a shot in the spring to win the long man job in the pen but otherwise, I am not interested in him at all.

I tried to warn you of his impending demise.

Yeah....as a owner of Fister in the LOD i can say he sucked big salty balls.

I think I asked you about him 2-3 times before the season. Bullet dodged.

Isn't Gallardo a free agent as well?

Yup, I accidentally deleted a pitcher and didn't notice who it was....it was him! Good eye.

They have some good arms without Iwakuma. I agree but wouldn't be shocked if a deal isn't done.

I knew he had a down year. Didn't realize it was this down. All right, he's off my list.

I like Chen too. I should have included him.

Lots of decent talent on the market this year.
